A couple years ago, my wife and I went all out, buying one of those super-luxe mega-pillowtop mattresses (with boxspring). It's worth it. With a newborn in our house (3 mos.), some nights when I simply have to get a good night's sleep, I sleep in our guest room, which has our old mattress/springs. Going back to our bed though is just such a ... relief. The comfort difference is incredible. Sheetwise, we could probably do better, but I wouldn't know what to buy and my wife won't spend the $$$ on the really expensive stuff

Kingsdown pillow top mattress and box spring. It's monster-tall (don't fall out.), but feels so good. No back aches ever.

My next bed is going to be this one: Although i'm getting different colours ofcourse. Maybe in black leather or suede or something.

Definitely. Good call, especially considering that you are not working in a bed store (as I am) I have a different model Auping right now and i'm very happy with it, except for the design and size (160/200).

Yes, it does make a difference. Every person sweats out about half a litre to a litre per night. When you lay your matress on the ground your sweat had nowwhere to go except to stay in the matress and maybe vaporize a little bit. Leaving most of the residue in the matress. When you have your matress on a boxspring (which is mostly open on the inside) you have a base which ventilates and can absorb and can get rid off your sweat better and more efficiently. So a boxspring is more hygienic. Apart from that it's more comfortable because the boxspring also has springs in it which provide support and comfort. BTW, what is the base your matrass is on? Is it like a wooden board with little holes in it, or more like 12 to 24 wooden, euhm, help me out with my english here...

I have 230 count cotton sateen sheets, a down comforter and two sets of down pillows. (my girlfriend hooked me up just before we broke up). The strange thing about the setup is that it's primarily Martha Stewart products from Kmart, but by the way it's arranged and the quality of the sheets, you'd never guess it.

I've been out shoppping for a new bed... and got an Auping, again: the Auronde 1500 (180/220.). So that's how. MtB

Never less than 300 Thread Count. You can find 300-1000 TC for very reasonable prices on ebay, Overstock.com, SmartBargains.com or at Tuesday Morning. I literally have trouble sleeping on anything else. I know, I know. Sound very "princess-ish", but once you get accustomed to them, it's true. If I don't have access to a 100% goose down pillow, then I usually just do without. It's not that others are terrible, I just prefer a pillow that is VERY soft and flattens out. Most are too big / hard. I spend 100-150 nite/yr in hotel beds, so I can highly recommend Westin's "Heavenly Bed", although many others are beginning to copy it. Sheraton and W have comparable setups. Hilton and Priorty Club chains are introducing similar beds in their higher-end properties as well.

Frette bedding is terrific. Of course, I personally am, like Brian, used to the bachelor lifestyle, and could sleep on a rollout mattress pretty much indefinitely (when I moved out here, I would have except that my mother insisted that I get a proper bed.) Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I sleep like infant. But womens are funny things.

Yup, i'd say get rid of it. It simply isn't very comfortable. A boxspring base is a lot more comfortable.BTW, i just looked up the name and it is a 'slatted base'. As LAguy said, Frette bedding is very nice. Might be too expensive though.
