It's always quite hilarious. I'll answer what is Art tomorrow so this whole debate stops. It's quite simple really.

Yes. Opinions are vastly different, but not invalid.

Yes, McCarthy used foodstuffs as foodstuffs whereas Nitsch seems to utilize meat as a ceremonial totem.

Some opinions are invalid IMHO. A lot of others are very interesting and lead to a myriad of questions and possibilities.

I have always thought that the validity of an opinion has always been dependent upon the bias of the reviewer.

This thread is meaningless without having to define what art actually is first. But I think cooking is a skill that can become an art when you take it to the next level, once you get to that level things somehow start to get very philosophical, same as a lot of other stuff.

As an architect I can honestly say what I do is not art, nor is Frank Gehry's architecture art. It might have been art in its infancy when he was sketching and molding models out of cardboard, but as soon as the Air Conditioning man shows up asking if he can run a duct through your symphony hall roof, you've been reduced to a victim of practical concerns.

There is nothing utilitarian in the way some of us eat.

I've been thinking about this a lot over the past month. I think I've come to the conclusion that cooking is craft, and while it is artistic, it isn't really art.
But tha's just me, you all can believe whatever you'd like.
