My employers wanted me to do well with both work and school. By talking with my professors, they understood the requirements I was under with jobs, and they wanted me to be successful too. Yes, I missed classes too because of work at times.

Ya, I said that above in a prior post. My employers didn't (don't) give a shit about my university as it was unrelated to anything I was doing for them (programming and other IT stuff). They know that as soon as I finish I'm out of there, and it's in their interest to keep me around as long as possible because i've basically programmed all of their systems from the ground up. We had an agreement when I started, but they broke it and didn't provide me with the support I needed at work, and in essence, everything was always on me 24/7 because they wouldn't hire decent people as my backup. Things came to a head at the end of last summer. My boss told me he wanted me to quit school or he might replace me and i told him "not a fucking chance" (in nicer words) and explained that so far it hadn't caused any problems for him and that I more than pulled my weight (way more). He dropped it cause he was scared of my leaving, but for a while i thought it was going to lead to a major confrontation. So ya, the actual job is huge.

It's not possible to work full time + overtime + go to school full time, much less do anything else besides. There simply aren't enough hours in the day. Are you sure that's what you mean?

Most jobs that a typical student could get, probably, depending on your energy level.

I don't know... I can identify time that I waste because I'm exhausted. Theoretically I could be out doing other things. I average 50-60hrs a week at the office with spikes as high as 100 + full-time classes. With a regular 35-40/hr a week job that didn't place demands outside a fixed schedule with occasional overtime, depending on your program and how quickly you learn, and whether you're focused and organized, you could still have a decent social life...

My question was for Tycoon but I don't understand you either. There are 168 hours in a week. Assuming that you are sleeping five hours a night at minimum, that leaves 133. Yet to claim to work 100 hours a week (on occasion), plus full time classes (which, at my university, was at least another 12.5 hours a week), plus the attendant schoolwork, plus time to cook, eat, go to the bathroom, get from place to place, etc.? I'm sorry, but it's mathematically impossible. Your calculations must be wrong.

That's what I meant guys is it possible to do anything other than school, studying, eating, and sleeping if you work more than 40 hours a week?

I worked full time and went to school in universtiy as well as a technical college, all at the same time. effectivly, I was a horrible student, I hardly showed up to class and got bad grades. it seemed like a good idea at the time. oh, and I didn't really have any fun.

What the hell major is this where you don't have to committ a lot of hours outside of the 12-15 hours a week you spend inside classes? Tycoon- If you're working 50-60 hours a week, taking 12-15 hours of classes a week, having to do a bunch of reading, papers, research, equations, or whatever outside class work your major requires, and still do all the day to day things (cooking, eating, bathing, cleaning, errands, etc...) you're not going to have much time at all for a social life plain and simple. Also, you'll be really tired and not want to go to bars all that often. Most of this year until the past 2 weeks i was out of my house either working, teaching, going to classes, from 730-8 most every day of the weekday. By the time i got home at 8, i usually ate some food, took a shower, got some school work done/graded papers/lesson planned, and by that time it was already about midnight or later. I would try to have some fun on the weekend but asking me to do a lot during the weekday was really tough. Occasionally if i didn't have any stuff to do when i got home at 8, i'd be able to maybe go catch a movie with friends or go to a bar. Usually i cherished those nights to relax as i was exhausted. If you can take out some loans to lesson the load and only work 25-30 hours a week it might be worth it but i don't know how that works with your job. If so, cherish the fuck out of your weekends. But seriously, you have 40 years after college to work like 80 hours a week. For christ sake, take out a few student loans if you can and not be miserable.

I currently work 25-35 hours a week depending on how much I feel like working. I also take 4 courses and have an overall GPA of around 3.5. I've got a good social life and a decent amount of free time. The key for me is that I work for my Dad's company so I can take of any day's I need for studying and when it slows down a bit at school I up the work hours and work Saturday's as well. Works out really well for me.

I work 2 jobs and go to school fulltime and I still have free time. it's all about managing your downtime and utilizing it well

Yea, i've done 15 credits with lots of reading/papers and worked 15-35 at one or two jobs and been fine, played lots of intramurals, drank, etc.... If your hours are good and fit in your schedule nice it helps. If you have like an hour and a half between school and one of the jobs it kinda sucks as that's mostly wasted time. Try to schedule your classes with as little time in between as possible to save yourself some time.

It's not complicated. Obviously on weeks when i'd be doing 100 hours at the office (haven't in a while), I'd miss some classes. And those weeks usually involved an all-nighter. It used to happen semi-frequently, but now i'm working a pretty consistent 50-60hrs without anymore big spikes. Aside from that, on long weeks I'd eat at my desk, order dinner, and would't do any school work, which meant I'd have to find a lighter week to catch-up.

Anyway, I don't recommend that anyone do what I did. However, I think that a regular 20-40 hour a week job with minimal responsability, even with overtime once in a while, would be ok, as long as your school schedule was compatible with your work schedule. For instance, my sister worked full-time reception at a hotel, so it didn't clash with classes duringt he day, and she'd even get to study at work.
