Dakota rube: I don't really want to argue about Dylan with another person who likes him as much as I do, but I do think Highway 61 deserves its rank as well as Blonde on Blonde. I also prefer all of his albums through Harding. Then I skip over the next few to Blood and Desire. You really can't go wrong with any of these. Heck, there is some mighty good stuff on Another Side and Times. And, of course, Bringing it all Back Home contains more rock-leanings as it was just before Highway 61. I think his lyrics in Love Minus Zero - No Limit are terrific. I even paraphrased them in my wedding.

What? Cocteau Twins didn't make the list? There's gotta be a Cocteau Twins album that made the list.

what, like Treasure? It's a good one, but to be honest it wouldn't be that high up there for me. LOVE the avatar, btw, John.

their best album is 'victorialand'. but it's not rock, and they didn't rip off other bands, so they can't be on the list.
