Mister Heartache doing it acoustic is pretty nice too.

One of my favorite local bands used to do a killer version of Johnny Paycheck's I't Won't Be Long (And I'll be Hating You)'. Here's the original:

Another song they did was Charlie Rich's 'Lonely Weekends'. I can't find any video, but recall a very FU'd Charlie presenting at some Country Music awards. He opened the envelope and slurred out the name John Denver (I forget what the category was) and then pulled out his lighter and torched torched the thing....

I'm rarely in my car when KNON has something interesting on, but I loved a late-night punk and hardcore show they had when I was a teenager.

KXT 91.7, the new NPR music station, sometimes has some decent alt-country

Heard this band a couple of days, quite like them

"She didn't like me but she loved my money."

Yeah it is a parody song but it actually makes me sad whenever I hear it.

Good to see this thread still kicking!

I've been listening to the same old stuff ... Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Son Volt, Dead Ringer Band, Scott Miller, Kevin Fowler, the Robison boys, Gurf Morlix etc. Nothing new.

I always come back to Townes Van Zandt.

I also need to get some real early Willie Nelson I've decided. Any recs would be appreciated.

The new Kasey Chambers CD was just released. I can only hope it matches Rattlin' Bones - One More Year is so lovely!

I also recently got hold of her cover of Tear Stained Eye, which is one of my favorite Son Volt songs.

And speaking of covers .... I still can't get over the beauty of Farrar & Willis covering Townes' Rex's Blues.

I know the WSJ is not where I should be getting my country music news, but I just read an article about a guy named Jamey Johnson. Anyone heard of him? He had a big record last year, and the article was hyping his new release Guitar Stories - it's supposedly something special....

I've been watching this a lot, vastly preferable to the album version

Just because I haunt the same old places.
Just because I rang her number by mistake.
Just because I asked a friend about her.
Just because I'm not the happy guy I used to be.
Just because I saw her then went on to pieces--she thinks I still care.

Kasey Chambers on the Morning Show promoting & performing Little Bird:

My current fave (and not just because of the puppet!):

PS: I just realized I share my birthday with Ralph Stanley!!!

The last one sounds like a song Steve Earle could have written.

II've been going through a Bakersfield kick lateley, fueled heavily by Buck Owens, The Derailers, Merle, and Dwight.

You guys should check out Los Super Seven, some heavy hitters in the band.
