Gitman Brothers Vintage - Page 188

OK, I just compared the plaid shirt I got from My Habit with this year's navy floral print, which I purchased from Unionmade (both tagged Gitman Vintage size M):

Here's how the measurements stack up:

PLAID
Chest: 20.5
Front Length: 25
Sleeve: 23.5
Bottom: 21
Back Length: 29

FLORAL
Chest: 21
Front Length: 27
Sleeve: 25.5
Bottom: 21
Back Length: 31

While the chest and bottom widths don't differ significantly (or at all), the lengths differ consistently by two inches. I need to decide if that length is enough to get me to return the plaid. If I don't, I'll have to wear it with the sleeves rolled up or as a layering piece, which I might be OK with in the end.

Length varies quite a bit for me. Most plaids / flannels I have are about 29 or 30, oxfords and ginghams are 31-32 or so. I think one source of the differences in sizing is that Gitman sources so many difference Japanese fabrics that have different shrinkages. Given how shirts are made, the majority of shrinkage would be in sleeves and length

I understand shrinkage, and I've experienced sizing differences among fabrics and seasons with GV, but this is extreme. It's such a variation that I'd say it's a mistake on Gitman's part.

Yeah I've gotten used to it though. With the differences you posted, I don't really see it as that big a difference since it's two styles of shirts / fabrics. I have / had about 8 or 9 different plaids and in general they were all a bit more shruken than the oxfords, chambrays and ginghams (about 8 or 9 shirts as well). I only have a few crazy prints so can't really say how they fit but from the ones I've tried on (star / flags / zebra / polka dot / herringbone flannel etc) it seems like they are a bit smaller than oxfords but not by much.

At least take your MyHabit purchases to eBay. Trying to make a profit on them here where most interested parties are well aware of how much you paid for them is kind of insulting.

Woah. First off, who said I own those shirts, much less bought them from Myhabit? My apologies if I wasn't clear , but I was only curious to know how much one would spend on those shirts. (obviously no one would pay retail unless they were desperate.)

 

I am quite aware Myhabit had a huge sale on Gitman goods a few weeks ago, but had that sale never happened, the price tag of $59 would be far out of the question.

I'd prob pay ~$80 for a gitman shirt. They've been picked up by a plethora of mens boutique shops, so finding your size on sale is not that bad if you know the stockists and have a general idea of sale cycles.

Just received my navy/brown plaid shirt yesterday.

The fit is pretty good, even better than the olive overdye and baby cords I bought last year (sleeves and length are longer).

Very happy with my purchase.
