Collarless shirts under sports jackets

I have a couple of fine silk and silk blend long-sleeved tee shirts. I usually wear them with dark jeans or chinos and desert boots on the weekend. I'm thinking of adding a sports jacket to dress up the look a little, but I'm not sure if I like the whole collarless-shirt-under-jacket look. Any for or against opinions out there?

I don't like collarless shirts under sport jackets, especially t-shirts.

It's a trendy look for the night scene. Some people can pull it off.

Could be done, but not for me.

A high collar under a well-cut jacket is about as cool as you can get.

As newbie....I completely agree with you but I was wondering if you could be specific and let me know what kind of collar would look best?

ie. based on Jantzens (http://www.jantzentailor.com/collar.htm)

I'm going to derail this thread and ask, where do you get silk and silk blend tee shirts, especially long sleeved? This sounds intriguing. Collarless shirts under sports jackets seem to be very popular these days. There are even TV presenters wearing this combination.

The farthest I would go personally,
is a polo shirt with jacket.

You go with a 'no collar' shirt,
and you will ruin the collar of the jacket 100% guaranteed,
with sweaty grime.

I would reccommend a Button-Down Collared shirt,
or a polo shirt.

BTW, this look is more for the SW&D forum, not MC. Might get some different replies there too.

I'd rather wear a more casual jacket. They never look right for me.

You don't say where you are but the look is pretty common in Europe. I'm not really into the miami vice T-shirt look but during the winter will do it with a sweater. If it's warm enough for a tshirt it's warm enough for a dress shirt.

I have four that I picked up in Hangzhou China (cost me about $8 each). Paul Fredrick also offers them in both round and vee-neck in a variety of colors.

Perhaps if you had a velvet collar you could change it out every now and then after it had got ever so soiled from your neck.
