Just wondering if anyone here does any fishing or crabbing?

On vacation right now, and am planning on going to go catch me some fresh Dungeness and some rockfish or Lingcod this week on the coast.

Got myself a CrabHawk to try out.

If by fishing, you mean "going out on the middle of a small lake with your friends and a bunch of beers while uselessly casting out your line" then hell yes I've been fishing.

Cool. I'm just going to be fishing from land. Boat didn't pan out.

It's all fun. Nice to relax, and just chill with friends. It's more fun if you're catching big fish, but IMO it's nice to just be outside by the water. Are you going crabbing? I thought that just involved nets.

Nope. You can use a crab pot, traps, snares, or whatever.

I'm using one of these.

And we are going to the same place this video was filmed at.

I have a relative who has a crab boat, and I've been out crabbing in the Bay a couple times. Meh.

Several years ago I went fishing on the Ohio River while visiting relatives. My brother and I hit a motherlode of white bass, and I caught 19 of 'em in a few hours. His wife cooked and cleaned the fish and we had a great dinner. It was only the second time I had ever gone fishing (I had fished in Crab Orchard Lake the day before but didn't catch anything), so it was a real "beginner's luck" story.

Since then I've gone fishing a few times here in California, without any luck at all.

I have been ocean fishing once, and lake fishing a number of times. I caught about 12 fish in two hours, including a 30 min struggle with a 3 foot dogfish last time I went ocean fishing in a boat.

Fishing is 80% luck, 15% technique, and 5% bait.

Funny, he said, "That Kyle Wilkinson guy has a hella ugly mug, but his carapace is a pleasing, and subtly mottled shade peach and white. "

Fly fisherman here. If I was in Maine, I'd probably be a lobster fisherman.

I used to have one of those hawk things and they work pretty well if you're in a good area and have patience. It got destroyed by a sea otter though.

I've done a ton of fishing in my day, but nothing in the last dozen or so years, except for a salmon run a few years ago when I was back home. Salmon fishing is fun. You set up all the downriggers, put the auto pilot on, and drink and chat until a fish on.

I've been fishing in remote lakes in Northern Ontario. One trip, was the end of a chain of lakes, called Mystery, Evening, and Twilight. You have to carry your camping gear and boat over a couple of portages. It's very remote. I caught a ginormous musky, but we didn't even bring it into the boat. After a 30 or so minute fight, I got it boatside, and my brother just unhooked him from the lure, to minimize his trauma. I'm not a trophy guy; best to let that monster live. We had been "bottom bouncing" for walleye to eat, so not even after a muskie.

Well I paid exactly $12.99 for it at the G.I. Joe's "going out of business sale". We are likely going to the Westport Boat Basin (where the above demo video was filmed)
