(bachbeet @ June 09 2005,10:23) Even at his prices, they're expensive shoes.  I just don't see paying that much for shoes.  I want to have something when I retire.
Spend a little more time here and soon you'll be thinking that $400 is a steal for a good pair of shoes.
So true, Chaser: In January, I anguished over whether to get the $50 shoes at Sears, or the $60 ones. After hanging out here for a few months, I now have: Vass P2 wingtips AE Park Ave. AE Hillcrest Ferragamo loafers Certo suede monks (on the way, I hope, Lance.) Alden monks J & M split toes Bachbeet: I continue to contribute to my 401(k). Yes, I've scaled back on other things, but find these purchases really satisfying (and everything except the Aldens was at signficant discount). You makes your choices and you pays your money.

On a scale of 1-10 with Stacey Adams being 0, Vigottis would also be a zero ....
LOL, I looked on ebay and there were some more conventional looking Vigotti shoes. But with those styles we may have to push Vigotti into the negative numbers

My road to ruin: 1. I'm perfectly happy with my Bostonians that I bought for under $100 on sale. 2. I really like those Ballys.  Plus they're under $200 on sale, which is the top price I will pay for a pair of shoes. 3. What is this "Crockett & Jones" that everyone on SF keeps talking about? 4. I really like those RLPL Whittakers that everyone is buying.  Plus with the Bluefly credit I have, they're really $275, not $495. 5. Everyone says how great Allen Edmonds is, and these shoes are 25% off, so $250 is perfectly reasonable. 6. Those Vass U-last shoes are so purty.  Plus with the store credit I have, they're $395, not $695. 7. Man, Andrew is practically giving away those Vass samples.

Re: #1: Bostonians were out of my range, that's why I was at SEARS. [and it was Payless right before that]

8. Of course, for the best fit and materials, bespoke is really the only way to go.

And after that itch has been scratched, you seek unusual leathers, colours, tans, etc. Like the russian calf, cordovans in unusual colours,....

Back to the original subject. Lance, when will you have the pictures ready?

I guess the disdain for the Vigottis is coming from the noted Anglophile wing on this forum. Well, I'm an Italo-phile, so I'll stick w/ the Vigottis and Belvederes and the Mezlans. And I'll buy mine through Zappos. They just don't have my size in the Vigotti Neal. It's on sale for the mid 200s and I can't take advantage.

Nonsense, according to the customer review Vigottis has a 5-star rating.   Those are by far the most hideous shoes I've ever laid eyes on (and that's saying something). koji

Mantellassi's are Italian; Mezlan's last I checked were Spanish. koji

I don't know why, but these remind me of the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

If that's your price range and you must have Italian, Franco's (www.francos.com) has a fair number of Pertinis and a few Marteganis and Borgiolis in that range that are certainly higher quality shoes than Vigottis.  I would argue that they're also better designs, but then, I'm one of those Anglophiles... dan

The ones you posted the pic of are certainly not my style. I do like the Neal though. And, when it was on sale at Zappos for the mid 200s I did want it. But, not in my size. To give you an idea of what I like, I bought two pairs of Belvedere Tonos (black and dark brown) at Zappos when they were priced in the mid 200s. I am very pleased with them. I also bought a pair of Udines when they were around 300 and am also very pleased with them. I do find I prefer the ostrich skins. And I also bought a pair of Fabios when they were on sale. They have a little more flare and not so conservative looking as some of the Brit shoes. Having said what I have about Brits, I in no way hate them. In fact I love Tyrwhitt's shirts (herringbones especially) and just ordered a Lewin shirt. And, their laws did influence ours a great deal. I just am not all that moved by their more conservative styles of shoes. Yet, I do like some of the more conservative styles that To Boot NY carries at the Zappos site. Thanks, for your suggestion dah328. I'll take a look at those you mentioned at francos. I still might not find a style to my liking but who knows?

dah328: I do like these: http://francos.com/items/item.asp?sku5=28729 (395 though) http://francos.com/items/item.asp?sku5=28731 (950. Yikes.) http://francos.com/items/item.asp?sku5=24325 (175. Now, there's one I think I'll buy. Thanks dah328.) http://francos.com/items/item.asp?sku5=87604 (495, out of my range)
