Hello, I am going to NY in the middle of May, however I am only twenty, the kicker is my Birthday is at the end of May. The other two friends I am traveling with are 21 and I just do not want to be the drag because we can't get into places. Is carding very strict in NYC? (I am assuming so) We would probably going to more of the trendy cocktail places. I know here in Halifax, they don't tend card at nicer establishments but more at Student bars and clubs. Would pulling the ignorant card work? Well its 19 back home in Canada. Any help or places that might be worth a try would be appreciated.

Almost every place in NY cards. Good luck finding a place that doesn't. If you can find someone who makes (good) fake IDs, that's easier than trying to sneak it. If you want trendy, definitely expect to be carded. A few of the pubs/dives do not card, but that doesn't seem to be what you are looking for. Trying to drink in NY without an ID is really more hassle than it is worth. I think places like "Webster Hall" have parties with DJs that admit people under 21 (but you don't get an alcohol bracelet), and so you could have your friends buy you drinks there. It is a pretty trashy scene though. Drinker beware.
