Agreed on every point, particularly with regard to being "gentlemen". Do gentlemen truly have to point out that they are gentlemen at every turn?
Of course. How else would they know they are indeed gentlemen? I mean they could act in a certain manner, with modal mannerisms that befit what is expected in civilized society, but alas it is better to ask a total group of self-important strangers if you are indeed fitting their image of a "˜gentleman', instead of merely acting like one. I find it interesting that two websites which are devoted to the same basic purpose could have such different personalities. I post on both, but I post here much more frequently. I like most of the folks over at AAAC, but there definitely is a predisposition for "American Trad" and, generally, more formal styles of dress. People here strike me as a little more laid back and open to various styles of dress (particularly with the addition of the Streetwear forum). I think I post here more because the topics here interest me more.

Yes, thank you for coming back. I had to make my incendiary posts over there but there's nothing, as much as I like AAAC, quite like a SF war

I read both fora, but nowadays, I favor and post more on the SF. It was not always the case. I found the AAAC site before the SF and I had previously enjoyed it more. I used to think AAAC was more in line with my tastes, style and age group (mid 30s). In my opinion, The SF used to be populated with younger guys, discussing their latest EBAY conquest or the latest style of jeans or stripey shirts. (not that there was anything wrong with those discussions; I was just less interested in them.). These days, the SF has more of a balance between deep value buying and high end sartorial matters (plus we had Grayson for awhile). I think the new streetwear and denim forum is a positive in that it allows members with those interests to have their own space. I even read the posts there once in a while and when I decide I need to add those elements to my wardrobe, I know where to turn for expert advice. Conversely, in the last few months, this American Trad undercurrent has overtaken AAAC. Needless to say, it is so tedious and repititive. It would be great if Andy set up a separate American Trad subforum similar to the streetwear and denim forum on the SF. Yeah and that bad hair thread represents the lowest point of AAAC -- far worse than any flame war between Grayson and others.

 Conversely, in the last few months, this American Trad undercurrent has overtaken AAAC.  Needless to say, it is so tedious and repititive.  It would be great if Andy set up a separate American Trad subforum similar to the streetwear and denim forum on the SF.  Yeah and that bad hair thread represents the lowest point of AAAC -- far worse than any flame war between Grayson and others.

I´m not here and on AAAC for too long (since January and just few weeks like registered member), but I don´t think AAAC is so bad .... and I´m VERY glad they both exist....

I'm glad too - though I had nothing to do with it going down or coming back up this time. I only even knew it was down when Steve called me on Tuesday morning to tell me so. Apparently the database server blew a disk controller and lost the array (hard drives) that held the forum database, and yesterday when I called they were rebooting the server and "hoped the backup was good". Not very reassuring. So we may have lost some posts from just before the disk crash. I am now downloading a full backup of the forum and I will probably do so every day until we get it moved. To those of you forced to do actual work, I am truly sorry. I felt your pain yesterday. Once I realized I was powerless over the SF situation, I got a lot of stuff finished and cleared off my desk. Not to mention that the DSL was down at work most of the day yesterday.

Yes, I found that thread quite bizarre. It reminded me of that "People Like Us" documentary on PBS where the guy who really was an old money WASP had an aquaintance who asked him to teach him how to be a WASP. The title of the segment was "WASP Lessons". Â
