Protein Shakes On Non-Work Out Days - Page 2

Although I don't believe in the statement that '~30g of protein is the most you can absorb in one sitting' I don't think mega-intakes of 80+ grams of WHEY all at once is a good idea (unless you're like 300+ lbs). Whey is supposed to be a fast acting protein. PWO, this is exactly what you're looking for.

I've been reading up on this issue and it doesn't look like there's a solid answer. However, it seems like taking too much protein at once will cause your body to be less efficient at processing it, and will be burned off for energy. Without fiber or fat to slow down the digestion (what you don't want PWO anyway), it seems like too much fast protein PWO will be wasted. You also have the problem of gastrointestinal distress and stress on the liver.

Taking large amounts of whey at once may not kill you, but I've come to view that it's probably not good for you and, at they very least, a bad nutritional value. I'm sticking with ~30g.

If anyone has better information please chime in...

If you are talking about me, 80g is of of the ON whey + oat only has 36g of protein. (52g of ON whey + oat = 24g of protein) Add in 9 grams of casein and i am about 41-42g's of protein for a pwo shake.

"Too much" will be relative to what people want to think about the topic. I'm not really here to argue. I was simply saying that it's beyond the recommended intake for even strength athletes (suggested 1.6-1.7 g/kg bw/day ACSM, and ADA 2001 Joint Position statement. Nutrition and athletic performance. Med Sci. Sports Ex. 32:2130-2145 if your interested in looking it up). Average adults only have an RDA of 0.8 g/kg bw/day, which is very easy to achieve in average American diets. The body will not store beyond what it utilizes, meaning that your mostly excreting the rest. How much protein you decide consume isn't something I'm out to change, nor does it really concern me. Protein ingested doesn't necessarily equal protein utilized, that's all I was trying to get at.

Exactly, your body can only process a certain amount of protien. The biggest part in building muscles is getting your a$$ to the gym and hitting the weights hard. Downing can after can of protien shakes and going in for a half-a$$ed work out will do nothing.

Conversely, hitting the weights hard and then being lax in diet will also do nothing in terms of growth.

i drink protein shakes every morning + post workout (including cardio).
and its especially important to get your proper protein on days you do cardio in order to maintain muscle most efficiently.

dear all. if u think u eat enough food contained protein daily (both work out and non-work out day), u don't need to drink protein shakes.too much protein will not good for your health
