Protein Shakes On Non-Work Out Days

Thread Starter
Hi, I was just wondering how many times users of protein shakes drink them during non-work out days? I currently drink one pre-workout and one post workout but I don't drink any on days when I do no weights or just cardio. I eat a lot of protein most days anyway but should I was wondering whether I should top it up? Also should how many do people drink on their work out days? Thanks in advance for any help

Still three, morning, afternoon and night. Muscles don't stop building when you're not working out

You should be consuming about 1-1.5g of protein per pound you weigh, every single day.

When I am putting on weight, I will have 3 to 4 on on-days and 2 to 3 on off-days.

When I'm losing weight, I have none at all.

...more like per kg unless you have special circumstances. Excess protein is primarily just going to be urinated out, so why ingest much much more than the body actually needs? BB sites aren't usually the best place to get nutrition advice.

No, style websites are a much better place to get nutritional advice.

To answer the OP's question, I take the same on non-workout days, with the exception of the PWO shake. So, a whey shake in the morning when I wake, and a casein shake before bed. Also, you should have a PWO shake after cardio.

Try and be consistent with the amount of protein you're consuming. But the only reason I would suggest not taking protein shakes on your off day is because you're not being active and as result you're burning less calories so you want to adjust your caloric intake accordingly.

Depends on your goals! If you want to put on muscle, you need to up the calories, PERIOD. If you want to look the same, and get stronger, keep lifting and maintain your calories.

OP, what's your goal? You going for size?

Actually you break down your muscles when you work out. They build when your not working out. But I'm guessing that's what you meant.

Very true, I read many things that make me cringe. Not saying my word is gold standard by any means. More that I wonder where the hell people source the advice they throw around on teh netz.

Are you claiming that 1g of protein per body pound is consuming too much protein?

protein is not a supplement. it is an essential food. you need a lot of protein every day

Non-workout days, only at night... 38 gs of blended protein (xtreme peptide 2.0) and 9 g's of ON natural casein mixed with some milk.

Work out days... same at night but also a pwo with 80g's of ON whey + oats, 9g's of ON natural casein and 20g's of dextrose with and i eat a banana about 20 minutes after my shake followed by a meal a hour to a hour and a half later.
