Need advice: my gf has poor grammar

So this girl I've been dating for a few weeks is really gorgeous, caring, sweet, etc. EXCEPT she comes from teh other side of the tracks (so to speak), and uses phrases such as:

"I got..." (instead of "I have...")--I think she usually gets this one right, though.

"I seen..." (instead of "I saw...")

It's starting to bother me a little (especially the second one)...partly because sometimes it leads to confusion. Example:

Me: "Hey do you like that unique thing I did?"

She: "Yeah, I seen that..."

Me: "Wait, so you've already seen someone do that?"

Anyway, has anyone else had this dilemma? Any advice on approaching her about this? I really like her and she's fantastic otherwise--it's just this one thing that's bugging me...

The downside of mail order brides... In all seriousness, yeah, it's only going to get worse. If you don't like it now it's not something you'll get used to. Poor grammar, like sharp knees, is a deal breaker to me.

If it annoys you now, then it'll only get worse, especially as you start to interact with her family. Just saying.....

Haha, I was just at her grandfather's birthday party with all her relatives and it went surprisingly well. I really don't care that much about how they speak.

Lately, I'm finding that I'm emphasizing my "saws" more...
She's smart. Maybe she'll get the hint? I just can't see how one wouldn't notice.

So your new gf is black? (other side of the tracks?)

Is it proper English to respond 'I'm sure'! to the question, "How do you do"?

On a more serious note. Well, that is what makes the dating period exciting and interesting! You both go through a 'clicking', getting to know you phase. It starts with her grammar, then you'll notice her table manners. Now if she starts like using the fork to pick her teeth, maybe it's time to curtail the relationship?

No, she's white but blue-collar. (I didn't know OSOTT implied she's black.)

my girl says "got" instead of "have" - this has led me to speaking this way a few times (even at work !!)

not good!

I was just wondering. Does the grammar bother you more, or does it bother you that other people will hear her using it?

Good luck with that. I really hope there is some way to change her grammar. It would be an absolute deal breaker for me. I find my blood boiling when I hear grown men and women fouling up basic elementary english.

People tend to be influenced by the speech patterns of those around them - her grammar may change naturally, or yours might, either way problem solved.

I wouldn't be OK with this. Would toss.

Just giv'er!!!

if it's bothering you it probably will continue to be a problem. Personally, shallow as it sounds, I'd be embarrassed to be around my friends with her. My GF is a blue collar girl who's worked hard to educate herself and occasionally doesn't understand the words I use but otherwise she has good grammer so it's not cause for embarassement.
