You married guys crack me up.  You need to put your foot down and say (using Cartman's voice), "RESPECT MY AUTHORITY." Or get separate checking accounts.
Yeah, because those options always go over really well. Me, I have an really uncomfortable couch to sleep on.

Tried to do the latter. Bank screwed it all up by sending my account statement to my house instead of the office. That was a nice conversation -- turned into me doing something like this: "I just did it because I want to feel like a man again."

Ouch. That is not good. PM me and we'll get coffee; and I promise not to laugh when you tell the story. The kicker was probably when you tried to do it in secret. I've learned a valuable lesson throughout my life. It is always better to get in crap on purpose than by mistake.

Agreed. We kept our checking accounts we each had before we were married. If I had to try and balance the checkbook each month with my wife and I sharing the account I am not sure we'd still be married. She's lacking in the attention to detail department when it comes to her checking account. For that matter I'd advocate having seperate credit cards as well. We just cut up my wifes so she would hopefully show more restraint in her purchases (knowing I would see them at the end of the month). Let's just say that was a less than successful experiment.

Some valuable suggestions here, but a couple of points: AmbChaser: I believe the actual quote is: "You will respect my authori-tay." CuffThis: I tried getting separate checking accounts, but it was much harder for me to take her money that way. The bank said something about rules or policies against that, blah, blah, blah...

It's easy to get at her money you just have to set up her account as a joint account. However avoid at all costs making your account a joint account too. Otherwise she will be plotting ways to get at your money while you are trying to get at hers. By the way, if anyone figures out a way to present that to their significant other and they actually buy it.......please let me know.
