I am planning a ten day vacation in Paris in August. I have never seen so many angry and bitter reviews of hotels as those for Parisian ones. Can anyone give me the skinny on these highly rated ones?

I just came back from a paris vacation 2 weeks ago, and we stayed at hotel de l'abbaye, which we thought was delightful. its a small boutique hotel with beautiful rooms and a nice common area (outside courtyard for breakfast/drinks, inside fireplace to sit by in the evenings with more drinks). The staff was incredibly attentive and courteous and helped us before our arrival in securing reservations to every restaurant on our list. The area itself is less touristy but with many wonderful shops, food and clothing, and the hotel itself was literally a 1 minute walk from the st. sulpice metro. hope that helps--feel free to pm me with any questions.

I found a hotel in Florence and it was good. It had a living, bedroom and full bath including jacuzzi. Reasonable rates, very good service and extremely accommodating.

In any case, try them.

I have stayed at two of them in the last 4 years:
The Luxembourg Parc was impeccable and charming, but the bedrooms are tiny. Nice-sized bathroom, however. Unfortunately, the elevator was out of order during our stay and the tiny stairs to the 4th floor were quite a climb.
The Raphael is the most intimate of the grander Paris hotels, but it is just a tad dowdy in some areas. Adds to the charm, however, in my opinion. Our Jr. Suite was gigantic and beautiful.
I noticed that:
The Hotel d'Aubusson is on a noisy street.
The Pavillion de la Reine seems to have even smaller roooms than the Luxembourg Parc.
