Gaining muscle but losing weight?

I'm 6'1 and currently 142 lbs, and is very skinny for my height. I just started weight training, and progress photos show that I have become more muscular and stronger. However, I am also losing weight... Before I started I was 150lb, and now only 142. I have always thought that weight training makes you heavier? I am also doing cardio 3 to 5 times a week, but I have been doing that BEFORE I started weight training. Any idea what's going on?

i wish i had your problem, tall, skinny, and svelte. i think the muscular look is outdated. so 90s. be thankful. the lean and angular look is in.

as long as you are eating properly and healthfully, working out regularly and sensibly, and your doctor checks you out as normal, dont worry about losing or gaining some weight as it fluctuates due to water and stuff.

if i were you buy a nice wardrobe of slim jeans, pants, sweaters, suits and blazers (very fitted/slim) and get a nice chic haircut and go rock it girls will love you.

You need to eat more. It is simple, in order to gain wait, you must consume more calories then you expend. Also if you are concerned with gaining weight or muscle mass, you could cut back on the cardio. Lift, eat clean but alot, and sleep.

6'1" and 145 is SKINNY. It isn't slim, it is stick-like. I don't know what kind of look you are going for, but I'd say you should eat, eat, eat.

If big and muscular is out of date and stick-thin is in, then its only a matter of time until stick-this is "out". I say gain some weight and look normal. But to each his own.

it's the cardio, I start losing too much weight when I started running 5K everyday, had to eat more and do some lifting to maintain my weight (not in my best interest to replace all 8 suits...).

You are a rail. You should be stuffing your face with food. Sickly is not a good look

Umm, I eat insane amounts of food. 5 to 6 meals a day. I don't eat unhealthy crap foods either. Yet my weight stays the same, it's very strange...

bullshit....you think you do

this is why calorie counting and food diaries are actually important. Most people are WAY off on their estimations of how much food they consume in a day.
