The initial and important step is determining what type of skin you have. Is it dry, oily, sensitive or combination skin? If you skin can't tolerate the alcohol content in skin toners, there are other skin toner products that does not contain alcohol. There are some European brands that are natural based and does not contain alcohol. Check out Dr. Hauschka, Anne Marie Borlind or Dr. Payot. The first two products you can find at a natural health food stores like Whole Foods, etc.

Forehead and nose are somewhat oily, cheeks and chin are dry. What does this imply I should use?

You have what would be categorized as 'combination' or "T-Zone" skin. Do you break out in these areas?I would suggest applying a clay mask at least once a week.

I actually never break out anymore, just get a bit oily after a while. I guess a powerful astringent might be appropriate for the T-Zone area, and some kind of clay mask once a week. There seem to be so many expensive ones out there. Any recs?

Suprisingly civil so far.
I still believe this won't end well though.

Then why bother with anything else? If you're happy with your results, then you're ahead of the game. I recently heard from a friend who's been trying products by the arm-load and only making a bad situation worse!

re: Witch Hazel - I slap it on post-shave. Nothing fancy, just pour a bit in the palms, rub together, slap on, rub in.

I'm surprised, too, but I don't think the civility will continue. It wouldn't be SF otherwise.

+1. I'm a little upset. I know it's Sunday, but come on guys.

That's it! I'm logging off. Time to give my girlfriend her weekly facial.

I've used the Mario Bodescu daily masks before, they helped, but they were expensive and it was a pain to do it every night.

Right now my regimen is just a simple cleanser in the morning and evening, and some salycilic acid if I break out.

Can anyone recommend a good moisturizer/sunscreen combo?
