The 85 ways to tie a tie

Two Cambridge University researchers modelled all the possible ways to a tie, discovering 9 new knots. They've published a book: http://www.amazon.com/exec....1524041 Though their research paper can be found for free on their website: http://www.tcm.phy.cam.ac.uk/~ym101/tie/aps97tie.html I lack the mental capability for spatial thinking to comprehend the description of the new knots that they discovered, but perhaps you are more capable than I. Try a few and post what you think. I'm particularly interested in the slimmer ones.

The slimmer ones work pretty well. I use them on some ties that would otherwise tie baseball-sized knots.

I've tried to tie the Balthus on some ties but have always run out of length.

I own this book. Great illustrations. The authors make a particular note of pointing out that the more complicated knots can really only be done with very thin ties because of the amount of bulk that results from the complications of going up and around and over ad infinitum. Basically only the first eight or ten knots are functional in any real sense, but I'm glad I have it for the reference shelf.
