Yup, huge congrats to kgmessier! We're going to put your holiday trousers into work right now. Knowing you, I think that you'll still be able to fit in some killer fits and montage photos this season! Thanks again to everyone who participated.

Mike,

Just a question. What would be the difference between Rudy in cotton and chinos? The only differences that come to mind would be: the rise, and the chinos would probably have bigger belt loops? I check your site almost daily for new pants!

Congrats on the holiday trousers, Keith; looking forward to some pics of them.

Just grabbed the racing green canvas chinos after getting my converted Donegal Walts back from the tailor. Mike's right: after letting all the material out of the thighs and most out of the calves, they fit a lot better for guys with larger thighs and calves. I still need to try the Rudy fit, but nice to know that the Walt modifications work in a pinch.

Anyway, looking forward to getting the chinos for what will hopefully be an early Chicago spring. Who knows, maybe I'll even break'em out for St. Patty's Day (though as an Irishman I find the whole wearing green thing a bit cliche). sarcasm.gif

I've spent the last week in Naples and Scicily and not only have I a) been checking this page whenever I've had Internet but I've b) thought of NYR's interest for the region and c) gotten a compliment from an old man on the street about my walts (all the pants I brought are EP)

YAY!!! This was a total surprise. I was chowing down on a bowl of cereal and watching the YouTube this morning with my wife. She didn't know at first what the prize was, so the first words out of her mouth were, "Did you win a trip?" :)

 

Thanks to Mike, Adele and the entire Epaulet staff for running this contest! I have to say that coming up with the collages and trying to one-up the competition was the most fun. (I guess the inclusion of the softer sex is the best way to accomplish that.)

 

Just so happened I was wearing my tan moleskins and Strawberry Thief shirt at the time of viewing the video (no joke):

The Rudy is going to have a higher rise and a slightly fuller thigh and seat. The chinos have slightly longer belt loops, but it's pretty similar.

New pants are coming soon my friend! Those new rivet chinos should be here and online by the middle of next week.

Ah great, really glad that it worked for you too. I've personally modified a few pairs of Walt pants to Rudy-ish dimensions, and it shouldn't be a problem for anyone.

And rock them on St. Pattys! I'll probably do that when we go out to an ironic and snarky brownstone Brooklyn St. Patty's party that's meant to comment on the excess of the NYC St. Patty's day parade but actually just involves a bunch of guys in beards and Barbour jackets getting drunk and wearing green things while a steady mix of the Pixies and the Smiths plays in the background.

mike sorry to bother you but do you mind expanding on this a little bit. how much give to walt pants have? there are lots of walts i like but idk if they would work out for me. did you size up in the walts and then take them in or what?

Omar,

I actually sized down one in the waist to a 34 (normally a 35-36) and then had the tailor take all the material out in the thighs and then some in the calves where they were also tight and that did the trick. They're still slightly snug in the waist but that's because I need to drop about 15 lbs of leftover holiday weight. I'm sure it depends on the material as well, but I know Mike said the Donegal tweed would also stretch a bit on its own, so there's that too.

I don't have exact measurements, but you can basically buy the Walt in your usual Rudy waist size and let out the thighs to their max, and the seat a little bit to essentially get the Rudy fit.

I did this on my personal Holiday trousers, as they were accidentally made up in the Walt fit for me. I was the fit model for the Rudy, and it's generally pretty slim on me. Letting out the Walt definitely works.

New chinos arriving next week?! Will these be restocks or new colors, Mike?

I'm wearing the french blue cardigan today and a few people complimented on the hue. "It's not navy blue, but not too bright of a blue" is what they're saying.

Will these be the new chinos with the sewn-on buttons? Also, just out of curiosity, will you be dropping the "Rivet" from Rivet Chinos since they will no longer have those metal buttons? (I just assumed those are the reason behind the "Rivet" in Rivet Chinos)
