Glad to have you posting again KG

I'm trying to figure out my first Epaulet purchase. For the Rivet chinos, do the waists stretch at all? I'm usually a 31 waist so is it better to get the size 30 (30.5) or the 31 (31.5)?

Also will there be a restock of rivet colors coming up?

Mike will you be ordering any more long navy peacoats from Schotts, size M?

Based on my experience, the rivet chinos stretches around an inch.

Good to know. Thanks.

Mike/Adele,

Will you guys get anymore of the brown houndstooth in walt, size 32? I'm in the market for a few more pants.

Thanks.

Hey guys, first off - thanks to everyone who placed a Tweed preorder! We started cutting them today, and the production is going to be fast-tracked through the factory. Can't wait until these get delivered!

In particular I am curious about the Slim Walts - I need a few wool pants.

Thanks for posting. As the other members answered, our trousers are "slim" but not "skinny." I try to post natural-light fit pics for every new item, so you can see a lot of examples just on our site. And an important thing is that I NEVER use pins or clamps in photos to make items look slimmer than they actually are. What you see is the real-world, off-the-rack fit. And comparing our measurements online versus an item that you already own is the best way to determine the overall fit.

In looking at the shot that you posted, I don't think that the Walt's are that slim. They're more of a "cigarette" pant. But, I can tell you that the Walt is a really solid and flattering slim trouser that even works for guys with very slim legs. And it's entirely possible to have a strong taper and a very small leg opening tailored into them. Quite a few of our guys do that.

I didn't get any inseam shrinkage at all, but mileage may vary depending on your machine. If it happens, it's going to be really minimal - like a half inch or less. To be safe, it can't hurt to wash them once before hemming. Don't do the soak though - definitely do a full wash and hang dry.

Haha, if I've learned one thing as both a menswear designer and a shop owner who works directly with customers, it's that height and weight measurements alone are notoriously unreliable for determining fit.

People can have the same exact height and weight but have radically different builds. I'm 5'10" and about 200lb, and I wear the same size: Rudy 34.

Well, the trousers are getting cut this week - we'll probably end up getting the delivery around the end of next or immediately after that. There's gonna be some great stuff in there!

Oh, and for the Rivet Chino fans: we had an enormo-shipment leave Los Angeles today. We'll get it early next week and post up all the new goods!

No, no bugging at all. Sorry, I actually don't have any gloves on the horizon, and the only hats that we're carrying are from Wigens and Bailey. Check out the Wigens Harris Tweed hat though, it's really excellent, and it's the only driver cap that I can ever comfortably wear in the dead of winter.

Fit was great and I am a guy who can't usually fit in some of those skinny people pants, having comparatively large hips and thighs next to other 5'6" guys. These feel extremely comfortable and substantial, I can't wait to get them back from the tailor.
Very nice, thanks for picking them up!

Oh my god, those are a blast from the past! Man, they are probably my favorite out of all the trousers that we've produced. You'll kill it at the Biz-Caz meeting. When everyone else is wearing their Steven Alan Dockers, you'll come in all "Get Carter" with those! Pair them with snuff suede shoes and it could bring a tear to my eye.

Yup, we'll get a huge restock of Rivet Chinos by the end of next week.

And for sizing, I'd recommend the 31's. Like any cotton trouser, they'll break in and potentially stretch a bit, but this isn't everyone's experience. It's not quite like denim where you can buy it tight and then bust it in - if the chinos are tight, they tend to just feel really restrictive as you wear them. I encourage customers to get the size that fits them comfortably in the beginning.

Yes, I'm actually going to call tomorrow and see if we can get more, that jacket blew out crazy fast. It's really awesome.

Regarding the medium grey pants coming in, what material will they be? And I vaguely remember you mentioning a restock of the cashmere/wool grey pants as well. Thanks in advance.

Things looking great on the horizon. Ready to pull the trigger here on a few more items but need to see this houndstooth waistcoat first. Which leads me to a question . . .

Is the waistcoat very tight or does it have a sinch or something on the back that will let out or take it in slightly?
Last question. Any chance of seeing the Natty Penny Loafers again or are they gone? And if they are coming back, is there another shipment looming or is that more of a spring item?

I saw Mike's response about buying what's initially comfortable. But my experience is that they do stretch an inch; I'd say my olive ripstop pair has stretched more than that. If you are mail ordering I'd get two sizes to be sure. If you can tuck a T-shirt and buttondown in and get a few fingers in the waist after lunch, that should be fine.

I posted some pics of the waistcoat I bought in-store a couple pages back. IMO, it's not super-slim, and I actually sized down one from the jacket size I ordered (got a special order 44L jacket and a 42 waistcoat). However, I mainly got the size 44 jacket to fit my shoulders, and I will probably get the waist taken in on that once I get it, so YMMV. And it does have that cinch on the back to tighten it up a bit. smile.gif

Awesome, thanks for the reply sir! I will most likely be ordering a 42 as well as soon as it is online (still not sure on cost though).

Also, thanks for the pair of pants. They a touch tight in the waist but I can get them on at least (and I can get them take out 1 inch or so as well).

Cheers!
Jamie

Yup, we actually one unit of 32 and one unit of 36 just came in this morning - they're built into the online item now:

The medium grey pants will be an Italian wool flannel - same fabric as the cargo flannels that we're offering now, just a darker color. And yes, we'll get a restock of the Cash/Wool in grey, and offer that fabric in Navy too.

It's got a back cinch that allows you to take it out. It's a really solid fit, we've sold it exceptionally well in the store so far, and the fit is pretty consistent with our jackets and shirts. As in the case of Beatlegeuse, you may end up sizing down one if you're taking a larger jacket size due to really broad shoulders.

We'll definitely bring them back, but it's going to be in the Spring. Not much of a Penny Loafer market in the winter.

But fear not - our opening Carmina for Epaulet assortment drops in two weeks. These shoes are going to blow your mind!

Just a note here - the Olive Ripstop made up a size large and stretched more than most fabrics, that's why we ended up putting it on clearance. It's not that typical for the rivet chino.

It's in the nature of all trousers and chinos to stretch a bit. Your legs and your hips put a lot of stress on a garment - especially if it fits you well - so a little bit of break-in and stretching over time is totally normal. I just caution everyone not to treat Rivet Chinos like APC jeans and intentionally buy them uncomfortably tight. It's okay if they're a little snugger than you want, but I see dudes with brand new APC's who would give Iron Maiden a run for their money on sheer tightness. That can work with denim, but the chinos will never stretch that much.
