New Boot Mockup

Hey guys, I want to get your opinion on this..

I want to develop a new boot shape for the Fall. The Combat boot fit and last has worked really well for us, so we're gonna roll with that. The major changes here are:

1) Remove the side zip

2) Add stitched captoe

3) Change shaft construction to inset (allowing for the shaft to easy be made in contrasting leather)

4) Replace the top three eyes with speed hooks

5) Add rear pull tab

I'm sure that you guys are familiar with this basic design, it's a common one. Typically the seam for the inset shaft is done in an arc, so I'm thinking to keep ours straight across to make the shape more minimal and differentiate it. Crucially, removing the zipper will knock out a lot of cost, so our retail for this in Horsehide could be in the $275 range. It's not intended to be a direct competitor to other things out there, but to be a blake stitched alternative that's lighter, less expensive, and very comfortable. With this design, we can easily do fun group buys with dual horsehide leathers, or suede shafts matched to horsehide lowers. Even ostrich or crocodile could be used on the shaft, it's really easy to do!

Let me know what you guys think

I could get behind this.  Is the captoe a separate piece of leather or a faux stitch?  I prefer the latter.

@dalevy same here, we'd plan it as just a stitched captoe.. no extra leather or bulk. Pretty sure that they can do that.

I'd seriously give this consideration... I plan on stepping up my boot collection. I was never crazy about the zipper, I'm happy to have it removed, especially considering it would help with the price. I love the idea of an interesting shaft.

I look forward to seeing how this develops.

@Epaulet I think the new boot design is cool, would like to see it in snuff suede.  If you have access to pebbled grain calf leather, it would be a killer winter boot make up with that commando sole.

@Epaulet Count me as another who was never too interested in the boots with the side zippers so I like this design quite a bit more. I also like the idea of the faux stitching across the cap instead of actually adding another piece of leather there (a casual boot in a casual leather with a plain captoe always strikes me as something that is trying to be a safety boot for a work environment, but without the actual added safety of the steel toe).

The ability to do a different or contrasting leather for the shaft makes this a much more interesting makeup. Maybe something like a smooth calf or horsehide for most of the boot and then a pebble grained shaft? Or pebble grain boot with a suede shaft?

Is there a general Styleforum code?  I'm not seeing anything, but I figured it might be so well known and that's why I ask.

Aero jackets are going online today! We've got a killer launch promo and we should be able to deliver these right at the start of May. Hope that you don't mind the fit model for this:
