Whoa, those look great! Gorgeous in scotchgrain.
Yup, it's the Brentwood Country Mart, and we had a taco as well right before this pic. And then an artisanal pour-over coffee. That place has the bougie behavior.

So these LBM's have a funny story. They're all LBM 1911 jackets in cotton which we had left over at the end of the year. They were selling slowly on markdown, so I drove them to my LA dye house. These guys do the best natural indigo dyeing in the United States. We tested one jacket and it looked boss - and we then ran the whole batch.

They're a mix of canvas and poplin, and 2-button and 3-roll-2's. For some reason, we quite a few 50's, a couple of 48's, and I believe a single 52. We need to measure them out, but I believe they shrank by approximately one size (Size EU50 became more like an EU49) but we'll confirm that before they go live. They look awesome, and this fabric soaked up the dye bath beautifully. They'll go online in a little over a week and we'll have the priced at $450. I had them hanging at the Santa Monica closing event, so some of you Cali guys may have seen them there.
Always. We've got new styles on order for the Fall and we've reordered the Emersons from last year.

So they look great, have a great story behind them, and are one-of-a-kind makeup. Sadly none in a 48L US I am guessing. The guys that get to pick these up at such a low price point are extremely lucky.

We'll have you covered very soon on Vittorio options though - I should have the swatches this week. Those jackets can be run up to size 58 Long. They'll be lots of great Loro Piana and Zegna fabric options to choose from. This program is going to be really, really great.

I saw these awesome LBMs in person and they're totally boss, but unfortunately they didn't have my size or I would have picked one up!

Mike, question, on the DWR Rust chinos that are on sale. I was thinking about picking a pair up and trying my hand at dying them in Indigo. Do you think the DWR coating might make this process difficult? Would it be worth it to try?

Also, when will the EPLA sportscoats be available online?

Thanks!

I was in the Orchard shop on Saturday and had a great experience. I had a nice conversation with Matt. He is super passionate about the product development pipeline, which you can clearly see in the finished product. I picked-up a blue EPLA sweatshirt and have been wearing for the past two days. Significantly better quality that my J.Crew sweatshirt that I have for the same price.

One item that really caught my eye was the american raincoat. It is beyond great and no one has sung it's praise on here yet, but it is a really nice piece. The feel of the fabric is a lot more interesting than my gore-tex Nanamica. The american raincoat has a much softer hand than the crispy gore-tex. I like my Nanamica, but if I didn't already have a raincoat, I would have picked this up for sure.

I also tried on the the Olive Doyle and the fit and feel of the canvas is amazing. Matt showed me just how nice the canvas had been breaking in for him. Now I have to make a decision... Olive Doyle, Chambray special order Doyle, or this new LBM indigo jacket that Mike just showed a photo of. The only problem with this type of product is it almost makes it impossible to make a final decision...

I'd totally pick up one of the Ventile American Trench coats if it just rained a bit more where I am. I've been interested in those for a bit now.

Oh man, you should really check out that grape sanded canvas. It's incredible! I know that you've already got some purple cotton pants, but I think those would still be your jam.

I was excited when I saw these...cannot wait for them to join the eggplant twills...

Been meaning to post this for a while and may start a separate thread.

I started looking for a new coat for the rainy season in San Francisco a few months ago. I did not want a traditional trench that checks all the boxes (epaulettes, belt, D-rings, etc.). I also wanted something slimmer than that traditional trench silhouette and it had to have a removable hood.

I found Mike's recommendation of American Trench and did some investigating. They were doing a sale on the last of the 2013 coats, but the size I wanted was not available. Fortunately, the new 2014 version was about to be released, so I ordered one.

Below is the feedback I provided to Jacob (for reference, I am a 44 in most suits/blazers, but I ordered a 42L based on the measurements on the American Trench website).

"Fit is great. I would need to size up to 44 to fit a blazer/suit under it, but not an issue since I don't wear suits in the rain. I am going to need to have the sleeves tailored to add at least an inch of length.

Construction is excellent and the fabric is amazing. It is interesting how it sheds water yet still breathes.

I only have two suggestions:

  • Move the iPhone pocket away from a buttonhole as water can get in.
  • Add a breast pocket for a wallet.

All in all, a top notch trench."

I highly recommend American Trench to anyone who is looking for a high quality rain coat.

I see in this photo that I have the Walts hiked to early bird special height. Oh well. Also seen pinpoint oxford and western shirt.

Great writeup, and thanks for posting it! When Jacob dropped us a line (Styleforum member & customer) about his new product, we immediately agreed to take it into the shop. Those guys put their heart and soul into this product and it really shows. It's excellent.

I'd advise against it due to the DWR. For decent indigo dyeing, you'll want a neutral white or at the least a lighter colored tone. I have no idea how the DWR will react, but given that water beads off it in the rain, I don't think that it's going to go down well.

Thanks for the mini review. I've been interested in their trenches too for a while. Any way we can get a fit picture?

I tried an at-home dye job on a discounted cotton LBM from Epaulet a few months ago. I wish it went a fraction as well as those ones look above.

I put a few hours into the process and I'm not sure the purple colour I ended up with was worth the effort. FWIW, I was going for a dark Burgundy. I can't decide whether to invest more time into the project to darken things further.

I really think the overdye process needs a few critical things most DIYers don't have: patience, chemicals, and insanely hot water.

Do you guys currently have any black wool fabrics available for MTO Walts? A tropical wool or hopsack. I seem to remember some being available maybe last year...

Last time I liked a dye job I did, it was in a pot on the stove, water almost boiling. I tries a similar dye job a few months later in the washer on hot and it was not enough.
