Yes I realize this is likely a sign I'm getting old.

I'm young(er) and I am in the same boat. Prefer roomy than snug. I've had too many foot problems to try to bother breaking in or wearing snug shoes

I also only buy shoes if they feel comfortable out of the box. I don't buy into break in periods.

Sidenote: I like the small detail of the photo of the shoe on the shoebox, well thought out.

@Epaulet Will I be able to expect any stretch in the vamp or much compression of the insoles? They're snug across the ball of my foot. I tried them on barefoot last night for a minute and they were tight even without socks. Trying to figure what to expect before wearing them. Also to be fair, last night when i tried them on was after a 6 mile run in the 90 heat so some swelling in my feet could have been present. Im definitely going to try them again, just curious how "give" I can expect out of the hide.

Also, these things smell absolutely terrific! <-- is that weird?

@BenLeaman glad that they arrived safely!

So yes, all of our sneakers (and the Chelsea Boots) will absolutely give in both the width and the height. They can stretch a significant amount if you need them to.

Our sneakers are somewhere in between a goodyear welt (not stretching much at all) and a handsewn (stretching a ton). The soles are stitched down and cemented solid units which encircle the toe, so any length stretch will be minimal (unless professionally done) but the width and height will always break in if you need them to.

I'm this way with the Tennis Trainer - a 9.5 is pretty snug on the first few wears. I'll usually pair them with light dress socks to begin. You can also use a slimmer cheap insole which will open them up a lot. Wear them for a day or so and you'll find them more comfortable with the stock insole.

The Suede Blouson has arrived. Sold two in the Manhattan shop today despite it being hot enough to fry an egg. This thing is the truth!

Are those dangerous denim washed shirts also in the Portuguese package you received?

That is exactly what I had hoped! Length is perfect, just need a little more space opened up around the ball of my foot. I think it will work out just nicely.

To the rest of you, I'm in the same boat with out of the box fit. It's the reason I've sold off all but one or two pairs of my Aldens on Barrie....Grant lasted Alden boots or Edward Green anymore.

I broke my self-imposed $60 maximum on sneaker purchases and kopped a pair of tennis shoes tonight. If my wife asks, tell her I got them on sale.

No worries friend - most of us started this way too

@Van Veen thank you sir - I think that you're going to be really pleased with them!

@BenLeaman yup, that should be no problem - and that horsehide molds really nicely. My UFH Sport Trainers are over a year old and I wear them 2-3 times a week. They're the most comfortable sneakers that I've owned. Leave them out in the sun for a day or two if you want that "Golden Krust" look!

@CanadaCal not yet on those, but we received our first delivery of $95 Somelos Oxfords. You guys are going to love them!

Here's some quick fit pics on Peter - our new Made To Order coordinator. If you want custom stuff at the New York store, he's the dude!

This jacket came out so nice. Italian suede, made in Portgual - $475....

^I actually bought this yesterday, and Peter helped size me for it. It's literally the perfect suede bomber. It was my first visit in person to the Epaulet shop and the experience was very pleasant.

Also, raise your hands for a Boston trunk show. Adele and Peter seemed receptive to the idea as long as there is enough interest.
