xPost from the Alden thread:

I haven't seen them show up much here but I'll give a nod of approval for the Michigan Boot (maybe I am biased living in the Detroit area?).

I think the shape of the Van last is a bit more versatile, and an infinitely nicer looking shape, than the TruBalance, and thankfully the Van has always fit me perfectly. If I could get the Michigan Boot in #8 or whiskey shell, I'd be replacing the Indy Boots in my collection. All that said, maybe I just like these for the same reasons I love my Ranger Mocs since these are basically the same thing in boot-form.

(Please excuse the sloppily rolled denim - I'm breaking in my first new pair of jeans in a few years and have yet to get them hemmed)

Got the calgary boots in and they are sick. The leather is so nice and I can already see them breaking in beautifully.
These are my first pair of boots so I was wondering what you guys do for daily maintenance and care? I want these to be on my feet forever.

I'm in the "less is more" camp of shoe and boot maintenance. Get a horsehair brush and buff them out thoroughly after each wear. If you notice the leather starting to dry out, maybe get something like the neutral Venetian Shoe Cream, apply it very sparingly with a soft cloth, and then buff them out. That type of leather should be pretty resilient against water all on its own so I don't think I would bother with any sort of water protector.

Daily? Shoe trees. I'll probably wipe them clean and put on some leather conditioner every 6 months or so, or if I walk through actual mud/salt Too much more than that and they'll look uncomfortably pristine. I used to treat my red wings every month or so. They were always darkened from the oil and never showed and scuffs or character. I stopped doing that and they look like boots now.

The Saffiano Bags Cometh...

Dear Friends,

At the very last moment, our Saffiano bag samples arrived from Portugal! I packed them up in an overnight box to California but shot a few quick Iphone pics before so. We'll launch the preorder in LA, but it will run for two full weeks. You can see the bags in person at our DTLA Trunk show on Saturday, or by the following weekend in our Manhattan storefront.

These came out absolutely brilliant. There's three colors to choose from (Black, Mocha, Cognac) and three shapes. The two bags can be done with either silver or brass hardware. The suit bag only comes with brass.

I'll have pricing tomorrow, but it's going to be really competitive for this level of quality. The leather is excellent. Its soft but still very strong. The bags stay up by themselves are will be water and stain-resistant. Our tannery for this Saffiano is the best in the world for this leather treatment.

I'll have a full suite of videos and photos to show next week. The suit bag is going to blow you away - it has three convertible solid brass hangers inside it.

I want that little bag for my bowling ball.

@Epaulet what's your general notion of delivery window?

The texture of that leather looks fantastic.

Also, just received a Mulberry leather jacket via 2nd hand, and it is the absolute shiz.

@FrankCowperwood, haha, we're calling that the "Gym Bag." It's bigger than it looks, actually. But it does have a real bowling steez going on.

We're going to quote 8-12 weeks for the delivery on this from the preorder closing.

@El Argentino it's really remarkable. Here's a copy and paste job all about it (English isn't so great, but it's correct). Ours is the calfskin "Real Deal" variety. The main benefits are: complete water & weather resistance, stain resistance, high durability, and a light weight. A lot of the "heritage" bags weigh like 10lb before you put anything in them. Which is great if you're really trying to build up your forearms. But not so great if you're hauling stuff through an airport. Saffiano has the best combination of toughness & weight out there.

Definition: What is Saffiano leather?

And how to define Saffiano? It is textured leather where the texture is made by machine. It has a cross-hatch style and diagonal pattern and it is usually made from calf skin (genuine) or poly-urethane (faux) with wax finish.

Its production is really interesting as it is put under a machine heated to 165F.

Then, the leather is pressed on for 10-15 seconds.

Then, it is treated with wax finish – it gives the leather durability and it prevents scratches and cracks on the handbag.

The only thing which could harm saffiano is the razor-sharp item.

Hey Mike,

Any chance of pics being posted of the new heirloom shapes/colors this weekend during/after the trunk show?

Oh absolutely - we're going to launch the preorder tomorrow. It will be up for two full weeks, so people can get personally sized in either LA or NY.

Here's the new shapes, modeled by yours truly. They're a little tight on me as the sample size is 40, but I'm more of a 41-42. Had no time to shoot them on anyone else before shipping them to Cali.

First off is our full-button front model with a waffle knit pattern. I need a jazzy name for this. You can order it with or without those pockets.

Next is the Aran Knit Crewneck. This thing is killer.

This is the same crewneck from last year but in our new Bordeaux color

And the Heirloom Cardigan in the new Mocha Java color.

Wow that full-button front model is killer! It's basically like a Stark but with the option for pockets...pretty much my dream knit.
