Don.

What do you use on your Alden's? It may be an illusion bit they seem to be a a bit deeper in color than Epaulets pictures... Thanks.

There was no response to my Alt Wein sizing question to Mike or anyone and I received shipping confirmation. Fingers crossed that the 10.5's fit properly.

I think Don's wearing the TSM plaza Alt wien boots but not the EP Alt wien in the photos.

Really?

Shoot, I bought the Alt Weins off that picture. Shows you how much I know. Those boots are beauties for sure. The plaza last, I'm guessing, is a sleeker last than the Barrie? Hopefully not too much sleeker.

Will the deep, rich shade of the leather be the same on the EP shoes since they are both Alden's?. Thx.

Yes. That is a hallmark of cordovan. Nice shine and patinas beautifully.

You'll be fine. Alden's #8 is pretty consistent since they do some in house finishing. One caveat is that shell can sometimes photograph shinier than it looks in real life. But it looks great in real life too.

And if anything the Barrie shape is much more of a classic look for an Alt Wien. Assuming the last suits your feet, you've got an awesome pair of shoes coming.

Frank has given you some solid answer there. And talking about the last, if you haven't already own a pair of Alden, Barrie last is definitely the way to go, it's a very balance last which you could match it with tons of style.

Akin is not a good description. Barrie is voluminous, but has a wide heel cup, and, comparatively, a narrow forefoot. Those who have moderately wide feet are going to be happier with the trubalance. Eastern European gents know what I'm getting at.

Had the Gables on earlier in the week.

The higher rise increase the comfort exponentially. I'm beginning to wonder when we decided wearing a tight waistband and belt on the bone of the hips was a good idea.

Will take some photos to post here when I reunite camera and SD card...

Please do. Will be going this way as well. I inherited some high-rise trousers from my older cousin a few years ago, and modernized them (trimmed the taper, deleted the multiple pleats) and they are glorious. The gable fabrics were just not in my style range, but I will be delving into the Taylor. Deciding on the olive or navy....

Olive. I tried them on in the store. Supple and soft. Beautiful color. Goes with whites, blues, and Browns wonderfully.

Thank you stevefok and Frank. I am looking forward to receiving these shoes.

As far as what Roguls said about sizing, I went down a full size from my brannock as I have read posts and have communicated with posters who advised me on sizing due to my feet and heel width. As I said in my original query to Mike, my feet are on the narrow side of 11.5 D; being 4" wide at max width and a 2.75" wide heel.

I wear 10.5 Vibergs on the 1035 and 110 lasts with toe room to spare so I have gone with my Viberg size.

I will find out in a few days if I did right.

Excuse me if I've hijacked this thread.

As are mine. I have a few pairs of Barrie and Trubalance lasted Aldens in 11D and, in each instance, there is extra volume in the shoes. I will not be surprised if a 10.5D is a solid fit.

Thank you Patrick.

I'll post as soon as I try 'em on.

@metranger8694 doesn't seem like a derail to me. Hope the fit works out and the shape of the last works for you aesthetically.

@Roguls I think the Taylor is maybe even better than the Gable. Working off of @FLW's comment about how wearable they actually are, once you substitute the more traditional waist band in on the Taylor and bring the rise down a shade (and they are still plenty high), I think only discerning eyes will note that there's anything unusual about them. What they'll see are really nicely proportioned trousers that you look comfortable in.

INNSBRUCK MICHIGAN BOOT: $585

I have this in year last Utah leather from the last run. Can't recommend enough. Really comfortable boot that works with pretty much everything casual. Not sure why, but in fact much more comfortable than all my other Alden boots.

Steve is correct. Those are the Plaza version.
