I think Mike even said that just one application of Lexol or Bick4 (can't remember what he used) darkened them significantly.  I agree though, they get a lot more character as they age.  Kind of flat when they're virgin.

Repost from the Proper Kit thread.....

******************************

Hello Gentlemen,

As a Styleforum affiliate for over five years, we're really jazzed for the Proper Kit show! We are an NYC-based menswear shop and clothing brand. We design a dynamic collection in-house and produce at a network of factories throughout North America and Europe. We're best known for our trousers, chinos, woven shirts, and sneakers. But our assortment spans a lot further than that.

We have two storefronts in New York: one in Brooklyn (Cobble Hill) and one in Manhattan (Lower East Side). As such, we're going to bring a targeted assortment of merchandise to the Proper Kit, and focus largely on Made-To-Order pieces. I'll post a bunch of photos here over the next few days, but here's a quick rundown of what we're offering:

t's on, again! This time in a really beautiful, incredibly lighted space, on W 36th Street, just off of Fifth Avenue.  The Proper Kit will have more options for customized footwear, tailoring, shirting, and accessories than any trunk show, ever.  So come get kited out for the long winter and to have a drink or six with us.  (There will also be some great food - Eclairs from Eclair, for one.

1) The exclusive Epaulet Chelsea Boot preorder! We're going to offer our natural-crepe soled Chelsea in six colors of suede and three colors of steerhide. A full set of size samples will be available at the show for fittings. Place the preorder now for delivery in March 2016. Any preorders placed at the show will receive a matched belt for free.

2) Our partners at Luigi Bianchi Mantova will be on hand to offer Made To Order sportcoats and suits. Any orders placed at the show will be 10% off

3) We'll also have our good friends from Individualized Shirts on hand for Made To Order shirting. Order two shirts and receive a $50 gift certificate. Buy three and get a $75 gift certificate. Or buy four shirts and receive a fifth for free.

4) Attendees of the show will receive a coupon for 15% off any full-price stock items at our two NYC storefronts. You can redeem it in person at our storefronts anytime between 11/7 and 11/15.

Mike, can we see those Chelsea from top down please?

Amazing lineup! Really hoping to make it down.

Can we see the leather and suede Chelsea options? Or need to wait till after the show?

This is what I'm interested in.

Those Chelseas. Never really considered a pair. But I've now changed my mind.

Did I hear there are new Alden preorders coming?
I'm rather drunk right now and looks like my kids have dirtied the mirror, but hopsack walts and duck Southwick coat. If I had hopsack Walts in every colour I'd be quite happy.

As for all the new gear rolling out, I officially give up. Epaulet wins.

@Steel28

@rydenfan

I'll have the full sample set here on Thursday, so I can show you guys the entire lineup then. I think that we'll have 6 suede and 4 couro cromo colors to choose from. It's bonkers. Pricing is going to be $275 for suede and $285 for Cromo. We'll do the same $110 deposit scheme that we've done before. Sizing is consistent with the sneakers and your TTS dress shoe size.

They're freaking killer. I've got some videos to show how the sole is shaped as well. They have very sturdy and comfortable blake/rapid construction.

We're going to have two specials:

1) Place your preorder on Saturday, Nov 7th and receive a free matching belt. After midnight 11/7, the matching belts will be available for a $60 upcharge.

2) We're going to give away TWO custom suede weekender bags. Just like the one below:

One of the first 50 people to preorder the boots at the show will win a bag (in their choice of suede color). And one of the first 50 people to place the order online will also win a bag. The boot preorder will go up the very moment that the Proper Kit show begins.

@FrankCowperwood glad that you dig them - I feel like these would be your style. I can't wait to show everyone the full lineup of colors.

@rydenfan we didn't order too many of them. I think that we just got 12 per color or so.

@avsmusic1 - it's really easy to darken this leather. Really, it would be pretty impossible to keep it the starting color. A bit of sunshine and oil will go a long way.

@Don L not that exactly, but I've got a gorgeous grey and khaki brushed cotton which are pretty boss. And we'll now have OTR moleskin in two colors.

@stevefok it's a mens pattern, so I think down to 6US, which is about an 8 in womens. Not sure if that will work.

We've got quite a few womens sneakers going live in the next week or two otherwise - and we run those in sizes 6-10

Thanks Mike! It's a tad too big for her. You know, I am always trying to get her something too so her won't complain too much when I am bringing in something new.:smarmy:

@FrankCowperwood good call - horsehide PTB's are pretty unstoppable

@docalden2013 good to hear from another Alt Wien aficionado! When we're talking about a makeup in this line & price, the sole units are always going to be different. My guys can't work with Dainite, and leather is a little bit problematic.

Blake stitching uses one large stitch to fix the upper to the sole. There's a channel at the bottom of the sole that holds the stitch. Once the channel wears through, the stitch hits the pavement and the shoe comes apart. Any leather soled shoes from blake manufacturers like Quoddy, Rancourt, and a ton of Italian brands will have this issue. We came across it when we made our own handsewns in Maine. This is the nature of blake stitching, and it is an issue for longevity.

When we started work on the PTB & Combat boot, I was a real pain in the ass. I insisted up and down to the factory that we needed a sole that was low profile and potentially biz-caz, but also long wearing. We ended up with the leather-rubber combo used on the PTB. The sole is stacked leather - and can be nicely edge-trimmed, and the bottom has rubber grip panels from St. Moritz. The rubber gives you nice traction and provides a lot of durability for the sole - way more than an all-leather unit could ever have. And truthfully, this is the only sole that I really have to use - at least right now. It's not a pure traditional dress shoe, but I think that the price and the comfort puts it into another realm. I love the idea of knocking out a Longwing or Alt Wien pattern and delivering a rad suede European-made shoe for $255.

Thank you for giving consideration to the alt wien idea. I also appreciate your sharing the thoughts behind sole choices. (Yet another great example of how much attention to detail Mike puts into his stuff). For the price you mention, it's hard to be picky (I mean, you're coming in at one third the cost of a Viberg horsey derby and you're even letting us talk about which type of medallion). For the record, I'd vote for Alden plaza style medallion > Vass. Liking the Alt Wein direction more than the longwing, as I'm starting to get emails from Frye for their new longwings (no good deed goes unpunished for buying my wife Campus Boots).

Yes, @bkotsko, this jacket is amazing. Love seeing it every so often on IG. I've been meaning to buy some Ep jackets, but I keep getting derailed by EFFs, sale rivets, and the sick shirts that keep popping up. My wallet can't keep up.

A horsehide derby/altwein + a suede alt wein for less than the price of an Indy Boot seems like a no-brainer. How do you guys feel about chocolate or tan suede? Snuff seems much more frequently used, at least in the Alden world.

This is another big problem for me: I look at the Ep site regularly and sometimes think I don't need certain items, like a brown shaded Rivet. Then heavy hitters like DonL post magic combos and I fall off the wagon again. Nicely done, sir!

Combo of the day imho. Mike, will we have a shot at these pants in any upcoming EFFs?

After ordering the horsehide tennis trainer this summer, I had the fantasy of also buying the horsehide GAT. Totally kicking myself for not following through...Lovely pic, 44!

Are we allowed to use patina enhancing chemicals for the contest? Seems contrary to the spirit of the IG contest. I usually agree with you @BootSpell on most matters, but I have to respectfully disagree. My horsehide tennis trainers fresh out of the box have neat caramel/toffee-esque nuances already.

Excited to see the suede color options. Had my eyes set on ordering an MTO with Carmina or picking up something from J. Fitzpatrick but I may have to earmark money towards the chelsea's first. I'm hoping for some stuff outside of snuff, chocolate, etc.

Really digging that tan Chelsea sample, can't wait to see all the leather and suede options, awesome price point as well. I feel like I bough a crap pair of Kenneth Cole Chelseas about 8 years ago for not much less than that.
