Great pics guys and agree with NYR, posts like Mike makes in handling these situations makes it very difficult for me to spend money on clothes anywhere else.

Re: seat seam on 7oz chinos

On mine, it appears that the weave of the cloth is just separating, not the seam actually opening up. What I mean by this is the loose weave of the cloth is allowing the warp threads to be spread apart. Looking inside the seam at the excess in the seat, the warps are bunched extremely tight (being squeezed) and outside much looser (pulled apart). As NYR and Mike mentioned, it is a function of the loose/breathable weave.

I don't think it is a structural weakness or concern, although it is moderately noticeable visually. May also add some fabric wear concerns in the long run as weft threads are more exposed (???). I think it also settles a little bit after a few wash/wear cycles.

This hasn't happened on my 8oz at all, owing to the fact they are woven much tighter (and subsequently less breathable).

Two quick questions:

I wear a 35" classic cut chino from JCrew (as reference), and ordered the 36" Oxford cloth chinos, and they were WAY too tight. I hear they were running small, but these were way too small. Do those with experience think that the 36" Rudy (cut bigger) will be a fit? I was blown away at how small the Oxfords were. I'm a fit 6' 200lbs, and for reference wear a 42 BB Fitzgerald cut suit pretty much off the rack. Would suck if I was sized out of these pants.

Also, interested in buying a pair of Carmina double monks. I wear the standard sizes in all my Aldens, am a true to size 11D in the Van and Leydon (Barrie 10.5D). I read on the site where you would drop a size (10UK), but I also read a few pages back where someone felt this shoe ran big and had to return. Just looking for some direction and/or feedback by those who have dealt with Carmina before, this will be my first pair.

On another note, dealing with Epaulet for the first time, what a pleasure. First purchase of many. Thanks NYR & Co.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Lightweight Rivet Chinos
Hey guys,
Thanks for posting all of the feedback on the lighweight rivet chinos. We've been handling things on a case-by-case basis, but here's things from my side:
1. The seam separation that you're seeing is probably due to wearing a very lightweight pair of trousers with a snug fit on the seat. The oxford cloth and 7oz duck - being the lightest fabrics that we use - will be the most prone to this problem. I want to stress that it's not that common, and we've got plenty of guys who wear the hell out of these chinos without issue. But if you're putting a lot of pressure on that rear seam, then there's a chance that eventually it will start to separate with significant wear.
The good news is - if this happens, it's a very easy fix. Any tailor can stitch down and reinforce the seam back up. If your trousers are new-ish, then drop us a PM and we'll most likely take care of the charge do to that work.
This is less of an issue as you go heavier on the cloth. It's rare to happen in the digi camo and 8oz canvas, and VERY rare with the 10oz ducks and heavier fabrics that we're using. It's like denim and really fine dress pants. Lighter jeans aren't as strong as heavier jeans. Dress trousers in Super 120s' aren't as strong as ones in flannel. It's just the nature of a lighter weight garment, and your seat and hips can put a lot of stress on that seam if they fit you very close.
@jslade - sorry to hear about your Carmina loafers! That doesn't look normal to me at all. I'll send it to Betty and most likely hear back next week after she returns from vacation. It looks like the steel shank might be coming up. We'll absolutely get those fixed or replaced for you.

I pretty much figured that would be the issue (the looser weave of the fabric), my main concern was the separation even after I let the seat out. My 10oz ducks are still holding up exceptionally well and I look forward to being a continued customer (even if my credit card hates me for it). A 10oz duck rivet in navy blue would be awesome...

I just got a pair of the double monks last week. My Brannock size is 9D and I wear Alden Barrie last in 8.5D, Van last in 8.5D, and Plaza last in 9D. The Carmina Inca last in UK8 feels just a little bit wider around the ball of the foot and about the same width in the heel compared to the 8.5D Barrie last for me. The Inca last shape does fit my foot better than the Barrie last as my heel doesn't feel "centered" in the Barrie last but does in the Inca last. So for me the sizing recommendation from Epaulet was pretty accurate. I hope this helps.

Hey guys,
I'm wondering whether or not any of you have ever ran into an issue like the one I'm having with my Carmina loafers. They're gorgeous shoes, but I've only had the chance to wear them twice since purchasing them.
After taking them out of my closet today and putting them on, I felt a really sharp sensation on the heel of my right foot. Taking my Carminas off and looking at them, this is what I see (above the Carmina logo):

Have any of you guys encountered something like this before, and any idea what's causing it? Is there any fix to it? It's an annoying sensation on an otherwise extremely gorgeous pair of shoes (highly recommended).

looks like the head of a nail popping up.

I just got my oxford chinos back from in and plan on wearing them soon. The timing is perfect since the weather is climbing into 100+ degrees now.

Could be a nail or staple. Damn to see this from a brand like Carmina

If you're referring to my sizing issues with Carmina from a few pages back, I wouldn't consider that a universal problem. I have a really narrow foot, which is the primary reason that one full size down in UK compared to my US size didn't work for me. If I had a D width foot, and 11.5UK more than likely would have fit my size 12.5 feet.

And I think a size 36 Rudy sounds like it would work pretty well for you - if there's any doubt, you can measure your J Crew chinos and compare to the measurements on Epaulet's website, which are very accurate. At the very worst, you might need some minor alterations on the trousers, which is a cinch for most tailors. Welcome to your new addiction!

It was, thanks a lot for the follow up! Really appreciate it!

On the pants, I would think the same thing, until I tried on the Oxford cloth chinos in 36s. I thought they would be on the big side, but were way small. I even compared to the measurement on the site, and they seemed off on the small side. Going to give it a shot on both Rudy pants and shoes. Thanks again!

When is the next available time for a special order of the snuff suede double monks? Matt's fit pics make me want a pair!
