That color looks fantastic. I've been looking at the Dove Hopsack Walts for a while now and have been craving a jacket to match. Think it's a fantastically versatile color.

It applies to rivet chinos in any size outside of 30,31,32,33,34,36. We can still do Walt and Rudy special orders without an upcharge, just email us about those.

Oh absolutely. In fact, I might have some more on hand in my Santa Monica back stock - we're still digging out of everything there. But if not, we'll definitely have more by the end of September. What a brilliant trouser that is!

We did change the buttondown collar a bit last season, but those two images are actually the same exact collar. When you lay the shirt down for photography, the roll always hits a little bit differently and can sometimes look a bit flatter or not. Worn on a person, those two shirts would look basically the same in the collar, although there's always a bit of variance due to hand-work.

Oh absolutely. We'll do the big Rudy order in a few weeks after the bulk of our Walt fabrics come in. Nightshade will definitely be in there.

And perhaps a shooting shirt as well...

Haha, I would love that too! We're working on the concept of a Norfolk jacket now, but we'll see how realistic that is in a little bit.

Failing that, I certainly have a lot of great tweed sportcoats and outerwear that would jive very well with clays.

This is our first foray into the retail scene over here, and after talking to other boutiques in the area, we've settled on the SM store being open 11AM through 7PM, on Tuesday through Saturday. We'll be closed on Sundays and Mondays. That's just to start. We'll feel out how traffic is in Sept-Oct and possibly add additional days or modify the hours then.

Any Vass x Epaulet MTO project ideas?

Boo on the Cali tax, but congrats on the new Santa Monica store! I'm backpacking in the Sierras this weekend, but I'll try to get down to LA at some point to visit.

Hmm, I'll see, we might have a size 7.5 equivalent. All of their shoes run in Euro sizes. They'll be here on Friday.

Not Ironwood, but I'm pretty sure that we'll have UK Navy Dongeal here.

I've got an itchy trigger finger on some outerwear for the fall, and if I had a good idea of what might be coming it might give me the strength to hold off any purchases until you guys get your stuff in.

Thanks smile.gif

Sure thing! I don't have much in the way of photos, but here's an overview of our outerwear by collection:

Epaulet
Eisenhower jacket in melton and Harris Tweed
Calf Leather Mulberry jacket
Horsehide Wyatt jacket
Calf Leather Double Rider jacket
Goat suede sportcoat
Melton Wool CPO jacket

Epaulet Veneto Collection
Single breasted quilted blazer
3/4 quilted jacket
Cashmere vest
Slim notch lapel raincoat

Spiewak for Epaulet
N-3B Snorkel Parka custom edition (remake of black, new introduction of olive)

Southwick for Epaulet
Single breasted 3/4 notch lapel overcoat
Single breasted mackintosh-style overcoat

Heavy Knit Sweaters
Knit Blouson (launched last week)
Restock of the Hardie Cardigan

I'm probably leaving something out, but that's the lineup so far. Lots of great stuff to go around!

Haha, you read my mind. We're going to invest a bit more in SF this Fall and do a banner campaign with some featured things that we make. Vass shoes will definitely be one of them.

Look at the distance between the collar points and the placket though. I'm pretty sure the bottom photo is the old design.

Ah you know what, you're totally right! This is what I get for trying to push that 3rd espresso this morning.

Yes, the top shirt has the "new" collar, which has wider spacing between the collar points and a shorter collar stand. The original collar was fashioned after a 60's British shirt and it was intended to have that high, mod stance. When we reworked it, we made it a bit more American/Italian and it's now friendlier to wear ties with. They were subtle tweaks, but we've gotten great feedback on it.

Sweet. I'll be there at 11AM on Saturday.

Did you have a chance to peep at my PM, Mike? Don't want to have any discrepancies while trying to buy stuff there!

Mike--

Are the Luchino polos due this week? I am finally going to be in NYC this week...going to stop by the LES shop and say hello to Matt and pick up a Blouson.

I'm sure you don't make these decisions lightly, and I imagine you have access to much data on your sales that I simply don't, but:

Your policies are very intimidating to new customers. I would never have ordered anything from you at all except that I once had a chance to stop by your Manhattan store for an afternoon and learn my sizes. Then Epaulet stopped stocking my sizes (28W, 29RC) and I had to do custom order. There was no upcharge at the time but the delay was a bit of a turnoff and the items would be final sale. Now there's a further upcharge on RCs in my size, regardless of whether I want to customize them or not. I love your products and this makes me less likely to order from you. Why would any new customer with my body type ever take the risk?

Hey Mike-
Any chance you could provide us with a run down of the Fall Walts?

I absolutely love how it looks.  Are any shirts with the older collars still in stock / rotation, or can I be sure of getting a new-collared shirt if I place an order?

Perfect, they'll be thrilled to see you there!

So, the Luchinos are here, but all of them are in Santa Monica. The NYC polos season is winding down while the SoCal one has a long time to go, so I had everything sent here. But I'll have them online in a day or two. You're gonna love the Blouson!

I totally understand, and I've had quite a few customers with this sentiment. Not just 28 trouser guys, but 38 trouser guys, size 46 sportcoat guys, size 6D shoe guys, etc.

When you're a retailer, controlling your inventory is always one of the most challenging things. You want to stock enough so that customers can enjoy a good assortment to choose from, but you can't stock a lot of merchandise that doesn't "turn." We arrived at our core "stock" sizes after a lot of trial and error. I stocked size 28 walts and 28, 29 chinos in nearly every fabric for two years. Same went for 34 jackets, 38 trousers, and 12.5D shoes. We had a handful of customers who were very into the merchandise, but after I analyzed the sales, it became apparent that these were the slowest selling sizes by far. Even with ordering just a single unit of each trouser in size 28, most of the inventory would end up sitting on the shelf. Even for very popular fabrics where every other size was sold out. The same held true for the Rudy fit. It's the only trouser that I can wear, but when we stocked it in the store, it rarely sold. Now that it's only via special order, we can serve the customers who like it and offer a larger selection of fabrics to choose from.

Our stock sizing merely reflects where most of our customers are. Example: my friend who buys for Brooks Brothers orders a lot of size 46R jackets. That's a totally normal size for Brooks to stock. If I made the Caine up in that size and kept it on the rack, it would most likely not sell. It's simply not a common size amongst our customers, even if its normal for a huge chain like Brooks, and clearly a common size for US men.

But, we do have a core group of customers who need these sizes, so we began the special order and MTO programs. I recognize that it has its restrictions, but it's what we can offer. And since we're able to offer personalized advise on sizing, fabrics, and colors, it's not so much of a leap into the dark. My staff will go out of their way to help you find the correct fit, and we do it all of the time with special order clothing and footwear. With our trousers, chinos, and jackets, you have the additional ability to alter it in or out. As Buy and Sell will attest, the amount of customers buying final-sale MTO product which doesn't work is very small.

And, as you indicated, we will look to keep inventory of special order-only size chinos and trousers on hand at all three stores. This way, any customers who visit us in person can try something on for fit before buying. And as always, comparing our detailed online measurements to the measurements of a similar garment that fits you well is an excellent way to determine the fit.

I should have a swatchbook around, let me try to sort that out in the next few days.

Great! Every shirt in stock has the "new" collar, so you're guaranteed to get that if you buy a buttondown.

I just received my caramel duck walts. I know they are meant to be dry cleaned, but can I wash them before I have them hemmed? I purchased the petrol walts last year and just assumed that they would be dry cleaned when I took them in... Of course they were washed and I don't notice for a couple of weeks. The result was super high water (luckily there was some fabric to be let out, but now there is fading where the hem originally was).. Too high to look good. The other problem is there is now a fade to the color. Anyway, I'm sure te ducks are fine to wash (since the chinos are), but just wanted to check before I screwed anything up with them.

Also, any eta for restock of 31 navy walts and do you know the measurements of the 31 walts?

Thanks, and when are the next rous of fall shirts expected.? I received the black and brown twill and it is great!

IMO:

I washed and dried my caramel duck walts (on low) before getting them hemmed. I probably won't ever dry them again (on purpose) but now I know they'll never shrink if they mistakenly get washed/dried. I doubt that there was much impact on their lifespan. Of course you will lose the crease if you wash them, which is something I wanted.

I wouldn't dry clean ducks unless preserving colour long-term is an important factor. Cold wash and hang dry is perfect.
Hmm, good point, I'll see how they look without the crease, but for work I like the higher rise of walts and the crease seems to work well in that situation. I actually plan on picking up a pair of the caramel smiths for causal Friday and off work time.
