Hello Gents,

For those who have or have seen both the Alden 966 shortwing and the Carmina Fitzgerald Cognac Shell, are they too similar to each other? I have the Alden 966 and would like to add one more brown/dark brown shoe to my work wardrobe. Maybe I should go for the Rand Monkstrap in Cognac? That baby would have to be VERY comfortable for me to drop that kind of coin on a monkstrap... biggrin.gif The double-monk would be neat but I am in a rather conservative work environment and I think that shoe looks best in the saddle shell.

I'd be special ordering a small size so both the upcharge and the wait will kill me. crazy.gif

Any advice is appreciated!

I'm probably in the minority but are zips on chinos possible instead or buttons? It's so much easier to pull a zipper instead of buttoning up

So I've been debating pulling the trigger on my first grey sportscoat, and the factory finds have been tempting me. Anybody have an opinion on the grey red-deck donegal versus the pearl grey?

I pulled the trigger on a couple sportcoats in the factory finds sale in the navy basketweave check tweed and the pearl grey. Now the excitement builds...

Add me to that minority. I find the zippers so much more convenient on any of my trousers, chinos, denim...

Thirded.

PS - If I was younger and still an asshole, this would be a really easy set-up to say something along the lines of 'Agreed, it's much easier for your mom/sister/girlfriend to unzip my chinos than unbutton them,' but I'm far too mature for that now.

I'm actually starting to feel like I'm in the minority now after all these posts, but I love the button fly on Rivet chinos - I even have a couple MTM suits with a button fly. I've seen so many people complain (mostly in other threads) that it takes too long to undo when you're in the bathroom. It seriously takes 5 seconds to undo the buttons, compared to maybe 1 second for a zip fly. If you can't hold your piss for those extra 4 seconds, then I think a button fly is the least of your problems smile.gif

Yep I like the button fly too -- adds a nice touch to pants. But I'd be cool with either.

For lazy ppl like me zipping up/down is one motion while unbuttoning requires more effort

This is why I don't wear pants. Too much hassle altogether.
