Epaulet shop - Official Affiliate thread - Page 1381

Sooo I came home to a big package which included:

- navy hopsack Caine

- grey super 120s walt

- 4-way multi-dot PS (gorgeous)

- Ashland solid burgundy tie

- Ashland navy & green regimental stripe tie

- and a navy Eisenhower (exchanged a medium for a large, fits perfectly now)

Now about the Caine. I've mentioned earlier that I don't really wear sportcoats and I was intending to use one only for one-off occasions, but this thing I've just received makes me wanna reconsider. You guys know this item so enough of that.

Huge props to Mike for going through all the sizing questions with me. I think we nailed the shoulders fit with the size 40. I'll be posting some pics for tailoring guidance later on, but for now a couple of noobish questions.

1) The sleeves are certainly in need of some shortening. I've examined the sleeve edges and I'm not sure if this operation is not too complicated for a tailor to do. Qualified tailors are few and far between where I live.

2) When taking in the waist, how should it be done? When can one get away with just moving buttons some 1/2" vs. actually taking in some cloth? I'm thinking the latter case makes for a more pronounced hourglass silhouette..

Don't move buttons around. Find a tailor who will do the real thing, especially on a great garment like the navy hopsack Caine. Taking in the body of a jacket and shortening sleeves are typical, bread-and-butter operations for any alterationist. Once you have a versatile garment like that that fits you properly, you'll want to wear it often, as it you already want to!

Wasn't  sure I could work it into my rotation but that Camo Sportscoat is dope

You pulled it off well Rob so I might have to reconsider

I see some Rudy options up on the special order section of the site now, but there doesn't seem to be too many options (only three wool options). Are there going to be more added, or is this it for this round?

Anyone pick up the Carmina Thompson Blue Suede Bluchers?  Any feedback would be appreciated.

A question about storing your cold weather clothing: how do you store something like tweed trousers and jackets?

Oh yes, we built out the Rudy preorders into three separate items. We consolidated everything to make it more concise. You can click through to see images of each fabric and read their Walt listings to get the full details. If you click on the dropdown, there's actually quite a few options:

SPECIAL ORDER RUDY TROUSER COTTON

Gotta say, the camo sportcoat is sick, and I can't wait to wear the suit...gonna wait for the next cooler day to give it a go. Freaking gorgeous today out today, so I grabbed one of my Epaulet Print shirts today:

I had a pair that I had to return before I figured out my Carmina sizing. They're gorgeous shoes.

Speaking of camo:

New addition for the shop Mike?

Wow, too many choices for the Rudy special order. Anyone have recommendations on a top three for the financially challenged? I'm thinking (1) Caramel duck, (2) Japanese camo, and (3) Mandarin linen. (I bought the pink cord, lavender cord, and gray merino from the previous Rudy special order.)

Thanks for the update on the Rudy orders, I guess I hadn't looked through each of the fabric options, I just saw the three choices on the main page.

In other news, I had an unexpected package show up today...my first MTO shirt! It's great, but has one big problem - the collar size is a half inch too big. Sounds like a small amount, but that makes a pretty big difference in how the collar fits. The reason I couldn't wear the RTW shirts is because the collar was too big for me. I ordered a Large with a 15.5" collar, but I measured it and it's actually a full 16".

Anybody else experience this with their MTO shirts? I could try washing and drying it, but if the sleeves shrink then they will be way too short. I wanted to order some more shirts, like a white oxford and maybe some gingham, but now I'm not so sure.
