Ok help me put the Walt vs Rivet sizing issue to rest!

I have a closet full of Rivets all in size 33 and am now looking to build out a collection of Walts.

I ordered 34, 33 and 32 and will exchange 2 of them for the right size.

The 34 are out the door - way too big.

The 33 are comfortable but too big in waist (could be managed with a belt) and a bit too big in the seat.

The 32 are pretty much spot on but tight if I have to bend over etc.

If I was confident the 32 wouldn't shrink I'd be inclined to keep them but would like to hear from the people here who own multiple pairs of each in various fabrics.

I know this has been discussed here and there but is the general consensus to take one size down in Walts compared to Rivets (eg 32 Walts and 33 Rivets).

Thanks guys!

SVB what weight is the flannel? Isn't uncomfortable and too hot to wear flannel in southern california?

I wear size 33 Rivets (although 32 works too) and size 32 Walts and have at least 10 pairs of each. Most of the time, size 32 Walts fits me relatively snug but comfortable. I do find that some fabrics are a tad looser in the waist than others, but no real rhyme or reason for it, so perhaps that's just the tolerance range for them. I did receive a size 33 Walt (steep twill) by mistake once but it was close enough to how a 32 feels that I just kept it. After running it through the dryer, it wears essentially like my 32s. Other than that pair of size 33s, I strictly cold wash & hang dry my cotton Walts and have not observed any noticeable shrinkage. I assume there are some slight shrinkage, but for me it has never taken a relatively snug pair before wash to tight after wash. Mine has felt about the same before and after wash. I hope this helps a little bit.

I wear a 33 rivet and 33 Walt tricky. I used to wear 32, in Walts but swtitched over to the 33.

Here's my take:
The 33 Rivet is big in the waist, I get what I like to call the Pabst Can Slot...that gap where you can comfortably fit a can a PBR if you ever needed to behind the waist line and the back center belt loop. The thighs and seat are just about as snug as I can comfortably wear them on these.

The 32 Walt could be PERFECT (like my grey cargo flannel, Cramerton Cloth Trouser, and Navy Donegal) but there were some where the 32 was way too tight (10 lb sausage in a 5 lb bag tight). For those I just took them to my tailor and had everything let out a bit. It was more than I'd like to pay for alterations, but the 33s in those had already sold at the time, so I kept them and did it. They fit great now, and the leg is slightly slimmer than the stock 33.

Some 33's are good OTR, no alterations in waist and seat, while some have to get taken in both places.

With OTR clothing, anywhere, there will always be discrepencies in the measurements up to 1/2 inch in most places, maybe even more. Its just the nature of things cut by a machine.

What I do is generally go a try on both sizes at the shop (I know you're in TO, so thats nopt really an option for you...speaking of which, enjoy the playoffs man!) and go with the one I feel best about. 75% of 33s need to be taken in, and about 25% of the 32s fit spot on without any. If I'm in a rush, or know a fabric is low and in demand, I just go with the 33.

Hoep that helps, and FTR, its my ass thats the biggest issue, literally. Baby got back it always makes the waists too big or seat too tight in anything but my bsepoke pants. God damn hockey ass.icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I believe so as well. It's actually hard to tell exactly what's coming with the shipping manifest - I just get a total by last. I should have the delivery today or tomorrow, and I'll post up everything once it's here.

Definitely, I believe that we have some more of that fabric remaining. What a boss color.

Not at the moment, but we'll have a bunch of other lightweight grey wool options with belt loops. You should give the side tabs a try though - they're rad!

Go for the 32. Wool trousers will definitely give in and have no chance of shrinking. Our cotton trousers will also break in and yield about 1/2" in the waist with some wear. The only shrinkage that you'll get there in in the length (about a half inch).

I received my hopsack Napoli yesterday, and of course it is phenomenal. I am wearing it today in 85° weather, and it really does breath quite well. I love it.

However, as I am just starting to wear jackets at work, I started to worry about the filson bag I carry. Will it cause the jacket to show signs of wear in the area where the shoulder strap hits? I sell wine and make about 10-12 stops each day where I have to carry the satchel in and out of an account. I only plan on wearing the coat 1-2 times a week. What do you think?

Thanks
