i am at 15" neck
and 34-35" in sleeves (ie- neanderthal-arm-length size)
what size shirt do you recommend?

You have 39" chest and the L fits well...? Hmmm, I have a 40" inch chest, been wearing the Larges, but was planning on trying a Medium for a more fitted look. Might be too tight...?

If you don't mind me asking, what's your neck measurement? I've yet to order an Epaulet shirt because I feel like I'd be in between sizes. My neck measurement is a 16 which is why I'm hesitant to go up to a large even if it might fit me a bit better.

My understanding is that the Medium is a 16 neck. I am a 15.5, but medium works for me as a casual shirt since I don't need to wear a tie or button the top button.  My two cents.

16 or could wear a 15.5 a bit tighter, but I was referiing to their casual shirts, not their dress shirts. So I never button the neck anyways.

I think Medium might be tight on you. Medium really fits pretty well for me except for the chest, which feels a little bit snug. There's basically no room to allow for shrinkage for me in the Medium size, so if the cloth tend to shrink more than usual (there were a couple of Italian ginghams that shrunk more than others), it could make it too tight for you.

My neck size is 15.5". I found the neck in Medium to be spot on/snug after wash. On the Large shirts, I found them to be OK after a wash or two, although I haven't worn any of these shirts with ties or buttoned at the neck, so even if it was a bit big, I wouldn't really notice. Worn casually, I didn't think the Large collar was too big or anything.

Thank you all for the replies! A medium in Epaulet does have some room for me, so I'll probably go small in Ashland. Now to deciding how to not buy all new shirts at once...

One more sizing reference for the shirt conversation

6'3"/175, 39-40 chest, 16" neck. I wear size Large and it fits me great. Slim, but w/ enough room in the body to comfortable but still tuck in nicely. I can button the neck and wear a tie w/out it looking at all off/too big. There's a bit of room in the neck, but just enough to be comfortable.

I wear medium in the Ashland shirts, and they are a touch shorter in the body fit closer in the chest, but overall I have come to prefer the Epaulet shirt cut.

This for oxfords and madras shirting--not the "dress" shirts--and this is after washing and hang drying.

I don't think there is a SF discount. There's usually a discount mentioned on the first post of most of these affiliate threads or periodically mentioned in the thread (need supply thread, etc), but I've yet to see mention of an SF discount. It would be nice...**ahem**
