Rob, just wanted to let you in on a conversation I just had with my daughter while thumbing through this thread.

HER: Who's that boy?

ME: His name is Rob.

HER: How do you know his name?

ME: I've talked to him using email. What do you think of him?

HER: I like him.

ME: What do you like about him?

HER: I like his stars.

Yes, they're excellent for it. A bit similar to the Alden Commando sole in that way. We have a lot of customers in San Francisco, the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Northern Europe, etc who were on the hunt for Carminas that will hold up against foul weather. These were ordered with those guys in mind. They're not waterproof like Bean Boots, but the combo of Chromexcel and a York sole will be great for short walks and commuting in lousy weather.

Agreed, I think that a medium would be spot on for a true 40-41. If you're on the smaller side of 40 then the Small will fit you similar to how the medium fits me. But most dudes would opt for a medium.

If it's impossible to be unhappy in a poncho, then I believe it's equally impossible not to smile in the Liberty Eliza floral shirt. I present this picture as exhibit A.

I'm a big fan of Epaulet, and I went far out of my way to visit the store when I was passing through NYC a few weeks ago with my girlfriend, met Mike and had a great discussion; it made me like their stuff even more.

But it's stuff like the above that makes me feel that sometimes this thread is only for adulation, and negative criticisms aren't tolerated at all. No one minds the camera tangents you went off on wj4, or basically any other sort of tangent that's present on almost every single page of this thread, but as soon as there are some criticisms of Mike's fit, you decide to usher people into another thread? Seriously? He's wearing an Epaulet polo, where else do you think the discussion about it should go really?

I feel like if I had Mike's physique, maybe I'd dress like that too. I don't, so I wouldn't. I also feel that even though I wouldn't buy a $135 polo (I guess I draw the line at $200 pants?), they definitely do have a place in a saturated low- (GAP) and medium- (Kent Wang) priced polo market. But surely people are allowed to say if they don't like something Epaulet.

^Yes, people are and should absolutely be allowed to voice their opinion in a constructive criticism manner. This is one of the few threads on this forum that actually kept a positive vibe consistently. With too much posts that resonate something like "stop wearing baby's clothes, bro", I worry it may compromise the quality of the thread, and make it less enjoyable to browse/post in. This was why I made that post initially. I will leave it at that. I postwhore in here just as much as anyone else, and I am guilty of posting non-Epaulet related things like the camera as you mention. I do wish that the thread remain enjoyable to browse/post in, and that's pretty much it. Have a good day smile.gif

Check it out on our Thompson Plain Toe Blucher. The "Steinbeck" version of the Carmina wingtip boot is going to be bananas. We're really stoked for you guys to see it.

Thanks for the link. This is exactly what I'm looking for!

Have to say that, well, if you're going to wear shorts (ie, be very casual), and you've got the body, you may as well show it off on those days. This obviously doesn't extend to suits, jackets, even business casual. But if you're wearing just a very nice version of shorts and a T-shirt, go for it.

[and no, even though I do think Epaulet is amazing, that absolutely everything is a must-have for everyone nor that every fit pic on the thread is lights out biggrin.gif ]

Hey guys,

What I believe Wisith is saying (and what I agree with fully) is that people posting pics in this thread aren't necessarily looking for criticism. For a lot of us, it's just fun to post pictures of what we're wearing and share them. It keeps everything positive, and opens up the thread for new people to join and get involved. A beautiful thing about our small section of the Styleforum community is that we don't have the "Locals Only" mentality that a lot of threads and entire boards have.

WAYWT Discussion thread is definitely the place for posting critiques - good and bad. I see guys like Stan Van and NewYorkRanger cross-posting their fit pics there. And there have been occasions where guys have posted pictures here and specifically asked for feedback, which I'm happy to say has always been offered in a respectful and friendly way.

THAT SAID, I don't count in this equation. I asked for feedback on the polos, and that surely includes my fit pic in them. I have no problem with people critiquing my pictures, and the points that you guys made are totally valid. I learn a lot from you guys and I draw quite a bit of personal inspiration from what you do and suggest, so I'll try to make it a point to put up personal images more frequently - especially as we move into Fall. I'll definitely continue wearing polos too tight though - I've actually been doing that reliably since joining a ska band in 1995. It's almost expected from my wife and friends at this point. Some habits die hard smile.gif

Luckily I'm the owner of Epaulet and not the official fit model. I have a feeling that I'd be quickly fired from that job. Thank god I've got dudes on my team who fit in our stuff brilliantly!

Finally got a chance to wear my infrared polo today, and I'm totally in love with it - it is worth every penny.  I'm really excited to see what colors are in store for fall.

One question on the future, as well: for the next run, will the sizing be the same but the labels be different (meaning that a small from this run would be labeled as a medium next run, but have the same measurements)?  This might have been explained already, but I can't seem to find it.

This leads to an interesting question (that may be too "company secret" but worth asking) -

How do y'all decide on how something will fit, starting from scratch all the way to a finished product? Do you build things specifically for your models, so to speak, meant to fit them perfectly? Epaulet is obviously elevated enough that everything isn't vanity sized for the typical American shopper either - how do you guys establish "fits" in the first place?

I'm in the camp of the "too tight polos & tees" with Mike. I do it because I was a fat bastard at a couple of points in my life, once in college, where I had a skinny frame and then ate McDonalds every night for 3 years at 2AM, and the other was after I started dating my wife, and we got engage. The second time I didn't weigh nearly as much but was much bigger because I had put a bit of muscle on the first time I lost all the weight. ANyway, my point is we all wear what we do and how we do it for different reasons. That's one of the things I love about "this thing of ours". In order to be in this, you don't need to cut your finger and burn your family saint, but you have to able to recognize from where the critiques you get come from, and take what you want to take to heart. Like Mike, I don't think I will ever be in the camp of not having my shirts be too tight, I just like them that way, and feel I have the physique to pull them off. I was, in the past, wearing many of my pants too tight. That criticism I DID take to heart, cause it was damn uncomfortable, and I old my 32s and sized up to 33s, and I'm happier for it. So I'm glad people offer their views, but I'm also glad we don't have some of the snark that exists in other threads. I totally put that off to Mike's CONSTANT presence here. Not like he's a chaperon, but its his store, and he enjoys seeing how his stuff is worn, because like most of us, he understands that there's different strokes to row the boat. Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the matter. So Mike, when do you think some of that fall stuff will drop in shop? icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif
