Alter a blazer one whole size?

So I got myself a blazer for a really good price, it was 70% off, only downside was it was 1 size to big.

I usually wear something between 44-46 (European sizes) and this one is 48.

So is is possible for a tailor to alter it down one whole size? Atm it fits good around the sholders and neck. So the problems I have with it now:

Its to big arond the chest
A tad bit to long in the arms
The the arms sleeves are a little bit wide for my skinny arms
And I would like to have the armpits raised a bit.

Would this cost a lot? Is it maybe better to sell it or to have it altered?

Further to Dr. Cool, you'll never be truly happy with it, and it will cost you alot of money to have it tailored, as it sounds like you think it needs a lot of work. As ever, fit pictures of it on would help us decide better. Details on the blazer?

It's POSSIBLE, it would take a great tailor and a lot of money. Even then, it will STILL be a little off.

Better to just try and get the size you want, or just let it go.

I did it because I knew that someone made a similar post, more accurately he already did what the OP was trying to do as in he took a suit a full size or two larger than normal and tried to get it to fit correctly after alterations...the results were not satisfactory at all. I meant to add more to the post in an edit but got sucked into a meeting... Also, how else will I reach post levels the likes of Merkur?

Vox said the same thing about his experience, and what he learned. He said that now he tries to avoid sale and just get what he really wants, since chasing sale will leave you still wanting something else.

Anyway, I will just sell it.

you will most likely spend as much perhaps more than the deal you got.

Sell it, move one.


But, in the spirit of SF, lets do some digging:
1. Does it fit your shoulders?
2. Does it fit your chest?
3. Is the length right for you in the body?

If the answer is no to any of the above, it is 100% not worth any further comments, or anything else-It is not worth doing.

I've altered a 38R blazer to 40R and it's perfect... just make sure it fits in the shoulders going from a larger size to a smaller size rarely works though (mainly due to the shoulders).
