Greetings fellow Aussies,

Can anyone recommend a good cobbler in Brisbane? I have a pair of shoes that need new heels, and will shortly need new leather soles.

Thanks,

Stuart

I've used Hallelujah Shoe Repairs, which is downstairs in Broadway on the Mall, on a few occasions. They are reasonable and they have said that they can re-stitch soles if you have a goodyear welted sole, for example.

However, I wouldn't want to entrust a really nice pair of shoes to them.

One place that I have not yet used, but that I have hear good things about, is Joe's Shoe Repairs at Coorparoo. I've spoken with Joe on the phone and he sounds very knowledgeable about shoes and he's said that he has a few shoe repair machines that not many people have, so that he should be able to re-stitch soles and such things in a very professional manner.

Unfortunately, he's not open on weekends, but he is open from 8am to 5pm Mon-Wed and Friday, and open 8am to 7pm on Thursday.
The address is:
Joe's Shoe Repairs
28 Eva St
Coorparoo

Joe's Shoe Repairs is great. His son John now runs it. Stretched a pair of thick cordovan chukkas for me and did a beautiful job. He really knows his shoes.
Strangely enough I found him on SF, but wouldn't you know I only live about 500m from him!

Interestingly, I just found this thread (via search) the other day and realised Joe's Shoe Repairs is also about 5min from me. I was going to ask if he could re-dye some boots for me.

Thanks for the feedback! Makes me more comfortable using him.

Well... Here's a warning as to what happens when you don't go somewhere trusted!

Took my Loake 1880 boots down to my local. Should have gotten the message when he nearly fell off his chair at how amazing they were (mate, they're only Loake's! He would have had heart failure if I gave him my Alden's).

Well. He gave me a topy which I did NOT want. He gave me a rubber heel, which I did NOT want (I mean, HUH?) He polished the shoes with something deadly and they are an entirely different colour... And the pattern in the leather is totally hidden.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next visit will be to Joe.
