Cheek Kissing

I usually cheek-kiss females upon greeting them, one on each cheek. Do you guys employ a similar technique or is it just me?

Prude.

Open mouthed kiss, with tongue, followed by 2 fingers up the butt.

Only 2 fingers? I bet you are one of those guys with a limp handshake too!

I grab them by the hair, sniff and grunt. They know I'm the dominate male then.

whip out my penis and kiss them with that.

I'd rather not kiss the majority of females.

Yes, I do, but not the ugly ones, and not the ones I see everyday.

Sorry, that was a typo. I meant 2 fists.

I think it usually looks pretty contrived and awkward when Americans do it, and often ends up being an "air kiss." The only people who do it right are Spaniards, and that's because it's a very old tradition for them. It might be becoming more common with young people in America because they see people doing it on "The Hills" and other related MTV drivel.

Growing up in Europe, it always seemed like the norm. Luckily, when I moved to Montreal it seemed like the norm too.

People at my girlfriend's school (a very small, wealthy liberal arts college) do this a lot, and I generally find it pretentious and affected. Doubtlessly its because I'm too plebian and unsophisticated, or some such rot. French, Belgians, and I think maybe Italians do this as well, but to both men and women. It can definitely be awkward when you're caught off guard and a guy does it.

Cheek kissing for greeting only with existing friends/acquaintances. The number of cheeks varies depending on closeness of relationship and nationality/residence of female.

Kisses/Cheeks - Nationality - Degree of relationship
3 - Spanish - Good friends
2 - Spanish - General friends and business contacts
2 - French (Southern) - Good friends
1 - French (Southern) - Casual friends and business contacts
1 - French (Parisien) - Casual and up.
1 - U.K. - Friends
1 - Mexican - Good friends
1 - U.S./Canadian - Really good friends
0 - U.S./Canadian - Everyone else
0 - Asians (not really a nationality but it's pretty much this in SE and NE Asia by my books/experience)

The above is compiled from my personal contact with the above groups from school, int'l colleagues and clients around the world. It is a rough guide.

Don't forget the variable as to the contact level during the cheek kiss...air kiss vs. cheek only vs. cheek with a kiss sound.
