SF Boat Owners? - Page 5

Should be pretty straightforward. Couple of suggestions: Used tinned wire (Ancor or equliv)- I don't know what was originally put in so you'd have to look at it. If it's oxidized, replace it. heatshrink or silicone the connections (or both) Keep the speakers away from your compass/fluxgate - in fact all DC should be twisted pair if within 5' of a compass or fluxgate. Jensen and IIRC JBL have phenolic cone speakers that will survive in a marine environment. Car stereo stuff may corrode away in a few years if not set up for dampness. Full disclosure: I pulled the stereo on ours and am not replacing it.

I'd love to help but the last owner already put some halfway-decent speakers in (2 in main cabin, 2 in cockpit-- fader to control balance). I do not remember what they are, as I have trouble listening to music on boats. In any case, they are probably superceded by another model.

W/r/t the electronics I did ask the yard to scour around last winter for something that would accomodate iPods as well as CDs and FM. The previous unit was a car stereo that didn't suck and basically delivered the goods. The new one should be installed by now but I won't know for another few weeks if it was a lousy idea.

agree with using tinned wire and hs connections...its what i would do for myself.
Dont care for jensen. JL makes good stuff on the higher end, there are a lot more options now than there used to be, memphis, etc.
