This is not good news, it's GREAT news.......

That is indeed great news. Not as big a deal as it used to be for those of us in DC, as now Virginia is a reciprocal state (more or less).... But I'll be thrilled if Maryland gets rid of its draconian felony wine shipping law.

I heard this on the afternoon news and almost opened a good bottle to celebrate the glorious occasion. Perhaps we should have an SF simul-toast at some appointed hour.

Celebrated tonight with a bottle of Switchback Ridge petite sirah, which I've only been able to get through Dean & Deluca since they opened a wine store in DC.... An impossible to buy on the East Coast wine.

I hope something changes here in PA, where all liquor stores are owned by the state, and no competition can challenge the monopoly.

Regarding Pennsylvania, I do recall hearing that the wine selection in PA has gotten much better than it used to be. Or, you can drive to NJ (what some people did when I lived in Eastern PA years ago).

The average state run wine/liquor store in PA is on par with the average privately owned store in any other state.  Some product is overpriced, there are some good deals and the selection is okay. The PA "specialty stores" have a  much wider selection of wine and spirits and there are some truly phenomenal deals on excellent wines. Jonathan Newman, the chairman of the PA Liquor Control Board is doing a great job.  In years past I regularly drove to NJ or Delaware to stock up, but now I rarely need to drive more than 10 min. away to one of the better specialty stores nearby.

From a man in Georgia, it can't get any better than this, unless they open the doors to out of state liquor sales as well.............

I prefer "wino". FYI, my doctor and I often go to wine tastings together. And I gave the neuro-surgeon who (successfully) operated on my back last month one of the best bottles in my cellar as a thank you for helping me. Of course, as a wino, I had to first take the bottle out of the brown paper bag that I store each of my bottles in.............................
