When you tell people how much you lift...

Do you include the weight of the barbell or just the total weight of the plates?

The total weight. Or you say "two plates, 3 plates" if you're doing full plates, but that's not often.

Barbell is 45lbs. iirc. That's a hefty chunk of my lift.

Haha I know, but EVERYONE lifts the barbell so including it seems kind of pointless. It's the weight of the plates that is really meaningful...

It doesn't make sense to do it any other way. You may be the only person who does this.

Shoot, i add the barbell the clamps and about 40% to what i can actually lift. I need all the help I can get! And i swear the plates at my gym are heavier than any otherv gym!

In all seriousness, used to be a heavy lifter back in the day and competed in a couple of amateur powerlifting competitions. They counted the bar in the total weight. So i say count the bar.

Now that I know it's standard to include the weight of the bar I guess I can accept it. lol

For some reason I thought it was "standard" in the fitness world to just count the total weight of the plates. I'm not sure where I picked this up but that was my impression. I was talking to someone about this today and they told me I was crazy. Clearly Style Forum has confirmed their suspicions.
