Was he starting a new enterprise with the legit businesses and he just wanted a fight?

Marlo wants nothing more than to excell at the game. He only wants to obtain the "crown," which would signify his reign over the drug trade. He is not concerned with the profits of the drug trade, like Stringer Bell; he has little idea how money is laundered and must be "civilized" by Prop Joe who arranges his account in the Caymans.
The fundraiser was simply a way for him to make connections, which would help him become a developer. Of course, a fundraiser attended by old, wealthy, and stuffy white men is severely removed from the game and, therefore, Marlo's aspirations.
When he left the fundraiser in favor of the corner, he was simply returning back to his home-the streets of Bodymore. The two corner boys whom he confronts do not even know who he is: the most prominent player in the game. He is cut in the scuffle and only laughs, for he realizes that his dreams have not yet been obtained as he previously thought.
