So true. I would have thought he'd be less active, given the pug influence. He has the lap dog tendency but loves to run. We get him on the beach and he has endless energy. Same for the dog park, he loves to chase and be chased but gets mad when he gets caught.

Barks and howls like a beagle and his underbite elicits chuckles during our walks.

Pretty cool video of dogs ratting in NYC. Old Broad's pretty spunky:

I had a chat with my mother a couple weeks ago regarding, how my dog would react if someone tried to break into my apartment after having seen a show on tv, where all the dogs just wagged their tails and greeted the burglar (police dog handler)

Tonight some idiot, who was moving in to a different building, tried to open my front door with the key to the other apartment.

As soon as the key went in he got out from where he was sleeping and started growling and barking, like a proper guard dog. (11kg of Havanais).

So damn proud of him, it is nothing like him, to act like that. biggrin.gif

Good grief! I was just at the pet supply emporium I usually patronize (part of a local chain) and was thoroughly mortified to learn that they no longer stock choke (training) collars or pinch collars. "Too brutal," evidently. I was advised to use a harness and gentle training methods based on praise and reward. I have to wonder what old Bill Koehler would have thought of this nonsense! Stuff like that makes me glad my time on earth is drawing to a close--"the sooner, the better," I think when confronted with such soft-headedness.

lefty or anyone: Didn't H. Sprenger used to make all-stainless training collars? I was just looking for them on-line, but all I could find were chrome-plated ones. Would the latter be significantly better than their pet-store counterparts--assuming the other pet stores in the area still stock these brutal devices.

Don't see anything wrong with that, what would you rather have the stick or the treat.

I love seeing people yelling angry at their dog to come and it just keeps away and then someone right next to them call in a friendly voice and all dogs close by come running.

On a completely different note, why is it so damn difficult to find a nice looking dog bowl.

Jan, Sprenger makes SS prong collars as do other companies. A quick google search should find some online retailers.

He has something like that already just in solid plastic.

I have been looking at this

don't buy plastic dog bowls. they've shown that most of the bowls are rife with carcinogens because the companies use really cheap plastic cause it's for dogs.

Need some advice here. My 5 year old boxer was limping on one of her back legs yesterday after the walk. She's not limping as much today but she's is still walking kind of gingerly on it. No swelling or anything. How long should I wait before I walk her again?

Easy walks until she seems fine. Boxers are pretty hyper and she could have simply landed badly on a jump and twisted her leg.

I wouldn't worry. Still limping next week? Have it checked out.
