The result of watching tv while posting on sf after a long day. shog[1].gif

@ lefty I knew it wasn't on purpose, so I couldn't get mad at him and it didn't hit the sofa, so he was the only one in need of a cleaning.

Just called the vet for a quote on a teeth cleaning 455$. crazy.gif

Called a couple other vets in the area afterwards 170-200$, for the same service anesthesia and all. eh.gif

Personally, I would go with whatever vet you are most comfortable with, and let the cost be a secondary determining factor.

Yeah had sort of already reached that conclusion.

---

Almost saw a dog get run over last night, the dog and I was leaving the dog park and was about to cross the street at an intersection and out of the corner of my eye I notice a dog on the other side street, I couldn't see the owner, so I just expected it to be on one of those 200m flex leashed people love. All of a sudden it's on the other other side of the street on a congested street during rush hour and the owner is screaming at it to stay put, which it didn't, so it just runs right in to the traffic luckily the driver of the closest car had seen it so he stopped right before, it ran in to the side of the car. wow.gif

The dog ran back on the sidewalk and the owner talked to the driver, but did he put it on a leash or check the dog, no. butbut.gif

I got something like this for my dog. Made-to-measure too, in keeping with SF requirements happy.gif

Seems pretty warm and it does well against the wind. Was <$100. Don't know that I'd put it up to a truly cold winter, but my dog is a wimp with cold anyway.

I had one of these as a child, mine didn't look like a bubblehead, though.

Westminster FREAK show in my opinion. Those poor dogs are so inbred I bet many of them will be dead from cancer or some other ailment before their 5th birthday.

Kennel clubs - the world over - are horrifically inhumane profiteers. No other animal has been genetically bullied as much as mans best friend.

Rant over.

Out.

I do not disagree. For quite a few years the Toller has been up for entry into the AKC but many in the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club (USA) didn't want it, for that very reason. Seen enough hunting breeds ruined because of the AKC over the years. And then Field Trials supposedly took their place so that we could keep the hunter in the breed instead of looks for "the show". But it didn't take long for man to screw that up too and soon dogs were running hundreds of yards in front bumping birds instead of hunting for man. And then there is the horseback thing. Excuse me, do you want to take that damn horse through the grouse woods and see how well you make out? So now hunt tests are the hottest thing going, until that gets screwed up too.

One thing I didn't anticipate with Tollers getting into AKC is the cost of puppies now that I'm looking again, it is through the roof if you can even find one. No the old boy isn't getting replaced, not yet he still has it but I know what is coming only too soon. He will hunt as long as he is alive and has the desire. But because of the exposure of the Toller in AKC they are gaining in popularity and demand is very high for the cute lab like dog. Which is a totally dominant breed and nothing like a lab that lives to please you. Also the breeders are changing. When I ask about prey drive and upland hunting ability of the parents the breeder (almost always a female now) replies: You want to do WHAT with my puppies?! It has been a bit of a shock.

^Yeah, showing and show breeding sure seem to ruin work function in dogs, most of the time anyway. I have come to despise dog showing.

I don't know enough about shows to say whether this is accurate, but I watched it last year and found it surprising.

The breed that always comes to my mind in this context is the Pomeranian. Somehow they went from this:
