you should see buster with the rescue pitbulls in the dog parks.... buster seems to have a really good way with rescue dogs of all nature (especially big scary ones) where he gets them to play with him - the owners of the random rescue dogs are usually surprised. Its wrasslin followed by running at full speed in circles rinse and repeat until the large dog gets tired.

i guess it started when we did the puppy kindergarten* with him at 3.5mths.... there were some pretty big/vicious dogs in that class english bull terrier/pitbull/rotti/cane corso and they were just going at it from day one. The trainers actually told us to let them "fight it out" and solve their issues by themselves and rarely separate them by force.

*puppy kindergarten was kind of ridiculous in retrospect, because it was more for the owners than the dogs themselves (plus my wife wanted to do it so I didn't really have a choice). but it was nice to learn how to keep the dog behaved around people/kids/other dogs. the second he gets into a dog run, and you pat his side and say "go play" he turns into another character altogether.

dog isn't doing well. she's developed a mass in her throat that's making it difficult to swallow. i honestly think she's dying.

she's drinking fine and she's actually eaten a lot today, we've just had to break it up into small pieces. will be taking her to the vet tomorrow morning. it's strange -- she's very interested in food, but will only just take most of her normal 'favorite' foods in her mouth and let them drop out. but then she's shown interest in other foods, and she's eaten quite a bit of this ground lamb dog food i bought for her.

it's.. all just bizarre. none of her symptoms match up to anything.

I love when people just let their dogs play, most smaller dog owners, are afraid of their dog getting hurt by a larger dog and pulls them away.

My dog was just like that when he was younger, now he just sit and look, at everyone else play.

Having a sick dog, is always difficult, as they can't tell whats wrong.

and of course our vet's wife just went into labor lol luckily there's a vet who makes house calls in my area for a very reasonable fee - $50 an appointment - and he'll be coming by tonight

vet just left.. not particularly good news or bad news. he used a portable ultrasound and took a look at her abdomen, and he saw some things that might be nodules on her liver (or might not, or they might be benign nodules), but nothing absolutely definitive and no giant tumor. next step is the more specific ultrasound to see what those are, and then from there possibly a needle aspirate biopsy and some follow up blood work. very strange.

I had Brittany's as a boy, hunting pheasants in the corn fields of Iowa and although i don't have much to add to this thread, it still grounds me to my feet - thanks Lefty and all. I worked as a boy for Dewey Jontz, a man who first introduced Border Collies into that state in 1938, as I understand it - a stand up man for sure. Anyways, my thoughts are with you Teger.

Ah, the crisp cool evenings of fall are upon us. I spent last evening doing some minor repairs on some tincloth and cleaning my 16 gauge SXS. The boys are anxious to get in the fields and I will soon be dropping some doves to warm them up. Brittany pics to follow.

 

It's still a little bit warm here but yes in only a week and a half ruff grouse season opens. I swear the dog knows it too. While I was a big fan of purple shells and a pointer growing up when I was younger I now hunt with a flusher. Allowing myself to throw all etiquette to the curb and stack my pipes OU, with the if it flies it dies rule of thumb. I have a good friend which I will spend several weeks with once again this year who has 3 FB, they all have a set of wheels on them. Great dogs. Can't wait to see pics of your Britts. Good luck!
