What does she do?
Bark? Growl? Hold her ground? Advance?

Whenever she heard the front door open, she'd bark and run into that room, and generally made a commotion until I removed her.

My dad often has her during the day, and she will growl at people outside his office/warehouse. I've noticed the same at home - she likes to be on a perch by a window so she can keep an eye on happenings outside. From time to time she will growl when she hears something. She very rarely barks at my house.

She actually growled a bit at my boss, though only when he came into my office - she'd go into his office and lay her head on his lap. No issues with anyone else in the office. Sometimes she will bark at a person while at the same time wagging her tail as if she is happy to see them, and to be honest I don't know what the hell is going on in her head.

Don't know if it's an issue of her not perceiving me as the dominant one who will handle "intruders".

Frankly, I don't particularly need a guard dog, and would prefer she just be happy to see everyone.

She is normal and I wouldn't worry. Barking at noise is good as is barking at people walking by your house. The growl can be dealt with by you with a quick, "knock it off" unless it is a situation where you want her to warn you. I don't know how often she is in your office, but eventually she'll get very used to the comings and goings.

She's a dog - this is what's going on in her head:

I look at her and think she's cute, but I try to be mindful of the fact that some people are scared shitless of her.

I think she's a nice looking dog. What's interesting is this note:

The dog that won is more of what I would call an inferior bully type:

I looked at the sites you linked to. One had a "click to purchase" button and I would probably avoid them. I did like Stephlyn. A little surprised that a few breeders are feeding raw.

Get in touch with the breeder I suggested and see who they recommend.

Good God! Are breeders actually selling puppies with a mouse-click! Any ethical breeder is going to be very particular about where his or her puppies go.

Guys quick question...

Is it acceptable (By SF guidelines, of course) for a man to adopt a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?

I've always had a soft spot for these dogs...
They can live almost anywhere... Very caring... Not huge... Not necessarily loud... Easily trained...

who really cares? I love spaniels, I have one that is mixed with dotson. Just because a buncha people don't approve should not sway you from what you want.

Before you decide to adopt or even go through a breeder, please read up on syringomelia and its prevalence within the breed. Our Boston Terrier was diagnosed with this about a year ago.

In short, it is a genetic disorder where the back of the brain is sloped in such a way that it puts pressure on the spinal column. As a result of this pressure, fluid builds up along the spinal column. Our dog exhibited symptoms where he would arch his back backwards and also scratched at the air. The latter symptom is what dogs do in this situation to try to relieve pressure on the back of their neck. Diagnosis of this disorder is made usually with an MRI (costly). Our dog is treated twice a day with lasix to reduce the fluid and also a compound called gabba pentin (sic?) which helps with pain. He was also recently weened off of prednisone which is a steroid that he was taking for about a year initially.

Luckily his condition has stabilized under this treatment and now he is at the point where he goes to a 2d vet twice a year to monitor his condition. The only other course of treatment that was offered at his diagnosis was to see a specialist at Cornell who could potentially perform an operation that would almost tuck the end of his brain in, so it would not put pressure on the spinal column.

When we got this diagnosis we did research on this condition and discovered it is prevalent in the CKCS breed, to the point where if you tried to get pet insurance for one, syringeomelia is excluded for coverage.
