short and to the point.

What about in terms of maintenance, energy levels, and so on?

I've heard from people that it's basically the wrong dog for you unless you can work the hell out of it daily.

It's wash-and-wear dog - a medium-sized relatively healthy breed with a short coat.

That's true of most breeds. I can't see getting a mal for a pet unless you look for a dumbed down AKC bred dog. Well bred mals are quiet in the home, but that's often due to the fact that they are worked extensively. Their drive can be through the roof and are usually a handful for an inexperienced owner. I had a friend whose mal was such a terror he broke all four canines trying to get out of his crate when he saw some bitework going on. She replaced the plastic crate with a steel one and replaced the dog's teeth with titanium canines. Standing in a blind while this dog was doing a hold and bark and his teeth were flashing by your face was never fun.

Why the interest?

What a beautiful boxer

A Canuker and I are looking to get a dog after the baby is born, most likely in the new year. We are both huge boxer lovers and our little Miss loves anything with 4 feet and a tail so a boxer is definitely a possibility, if we can find a decent breeder that is.

Edit: Should have realized by the address that it is a European site. Don't suppose you know of a similar site for Canada?

You can search for country specific litters on the drop down menu, but there are few Canadians breeding working Boxers. I know most Boxer breeders in Canada so if there is someone in particular you want info on, just ask.

Try these US kennels:
http://www.boxersvonbachbett.com/
http://www.brunnerboxers.com/
http://www.boxnen.com/index.html

Or a fellow named Mark Chase who currently has a litter on the ground. I can find a contact for Mark.

There is this kennel in Belgium that I have had some contact with. Nice fellow.

Be prepared to spend serious coin (2K+) for a US working Boxer.

Not much. Most of my GSD experience was with French Ring/Campagne dogs out of Daniel Berneuil's breeding.

Taking a quick look at those sites they both seem reasonable. The dogs looks good and are accomplished. Are you close enough to visit either breeder? If not, you could always wade through leerburg's board where you should get some straightforward answers.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I may have to move to Nashville, TN for what could either end up being just a few months or potentially long term, and I'm having trouble locating apartments that will take pit bulls. Zip where I'd be working is 37211. Anyone in the area have any suggestions? It's even more difficult because I'd need something where I could go month to month.

I know a little, my GSD is a Slovakian / American mix. Usually these are serious dogs with high working drive. If you're not doing police/protection work maybe you could pick up a Czech dog that wasn't quite police grade. You'd have to make a trip for that but good excuse to visit Prague

Thanks, Edicron.
