Manton, do you have a similar ranking of exclusive DC buildings? Â The Watergate is the only one that immediately comes to mind.
The Watergate is a PoS. Architecturally, at any rate. The best apartment building ever built in DC is 1701 Mass Ave. It is now the offices of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Magnificent Beaux Arts exterior with Second Empire interiors. Full floor apartments with perfect floorplans. The best building that's still residential and uncut is 2029 Connecticut. 2101 Conn is better known, but the apartments are smaller and not as well laid out. DC is not and never was an apartment town the way NY is. Only a handful of truly grand buildings with huge apartments were ever built. Very few (fewer than 10) are left, and of those only three or four are still uncut.
