Hello there,

First off, I'd like to introduce myself.  My name is Miron, I live in Toronto, and I'm a university student.

In June I'm leaving to study International Management at Hong Kong University.  I'll be visiting Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzen, and Macau while in China.  On my way back I'll be stopping over in Japan to visit my brother so I'll have the opportunity to visit Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima.

My question is, have any of you had experience shopping in these cities?  I've been told you can negotiate some great deals in Hong Kong.  Does anyone have some advice on particular locations I should check out?

Thank You

Miron

I've been in Hongkong twice and I think there are some pretty good deals on Notebooks and such stuff around. But lot's of stuff is quite expensive. Check out the Ocean Center and the streets around it, however all over Hongkong are places where you get anything.

mironearth: Hong Kong stuff ain't exactly cheap right now especially many stores have to face a hefty rent increase recently and they pass on part of the cost to customers. By all means get some computer parts if you are computer savvy. Visit the "sneaker street" or browse some local brands for basics. As for shopping in Shenzen, sorry, you ain't likely to get any good deal. Beaware of pick pockets and avoid carries backpack if possible. Macau: Apart from getting some local food and biscuits, I think not much people will shop there.........This place is all about the casino and gals(Night Club, Sauna, Bath House, Sand Ciricle),<---please del if it is censor material Oh, btw, I notice you will study in HK University. I am not sure but I think students like to hang out in Causeway Bay. There is a mini-bus to take there direct. Tons of cool shops around in that area, they are not cheap though. Just ask your classmates to show you around, most of HK gals treat foreign students well.

for good computer shopping and 'Sneaker Street' head to Mongkok, its on the MTR.

There are some cool smaller malls floating around Causeway Bay - when u stumble across one buy everything you like cos I guarantee you will never find the place again.

I quite like Ap Liu street myself for random gadgetry - also on the MTR, few stops past Mongkok

Rest assured, in HK shopping will find you.

Concur with sentiments about Macau above, casinos and hookers catering mostly these days to new-rich mainland Chinese
