A few years ago I found myself looking for a nice automatic watch. I was torn, I looked at Rolex, Omega, Oris, Tag, and some other middle to higher  end watches. The Rolex was just that, a Rolex, everyone wears them so others can tell what they have on..Tag is getting like that a bit. I ended up buying a soon to be discontinued Omega Seamaster 120 and I could not be happier...it is a great watch, runs well for an automatic (a few minutes slow within a couple of weeks, nothing out of the normal), it looks great, does not draw attention..the only people that know what I am wearing are me and folks who know watches...it is understated, the way I like to wear things.
Most of people wouldn't make the difference between a Rolex, an Omega or any large watch. Most of people don't even look at your wrist. Omega are good value for money but I hate the Seamaster. The color of the hands is awful (green), i don't like the shape of the bezel nor the shape of the bracelet. In fact, i don't like anything on this watch. I already have an dressed Omega anyway and so even if i liked the Seamaster, I would prefer a new brand in my collection. Oris is too huge and is worthless on the second hand market. I want a very nice sportwatch. Not just a watch to have a watch. Tag is tacky, oversized and overpriced and worn most of time by people who don't care about watches . I don't want a watch that don't draw intention, i already have 6 watches like that. I want a NICE casual watch which will keep its value if one day I want to sell it and which will be noticed as a good watch buy people who like watches. I guess someone who likes watch must sooner or later buy a Rolex (not as the best watch of his life but just as an upscale sportwatch). Having a Rolex will avoid me having to support stupid people showing off with their Rolex while I "only" wear a Patek or a JL. I could say : "Rolex is not too bad, practical for scuba diving or when I put out the garbage..." They couldn't say I am jealous because they succeded in life as they have a Rolex . And I could always show off with stupid people and impress stupid salesmen in shops (knowing Rolex is far away to be the best brand of course.)
