I plan to buy a Rolex - Page 8

I guess i will take the SUBMARINER but the problem is it has the old case with holes and not the new link. Anyway, I may wear it on a leather strap so it may not be so important.
What's the point of having a newer Rolex and not wearing the oyster band? I mean Rolex does make a divers strap for the watch (to my knowledge special order only, no store that I know of stocks it) but you are never going to go diving, so that would be a waste. If you want to wear the watch with a leather strap it would just behoove you purchase either an older model that specifically had no band, or just purchase a watch head, with will permit you to put a band on it plus, you can save a ton of money (perhaps even purchase a few more items on sale at Dunhill in the process). Jon.

The point is I don't like the bracelet very much and I prefer leather. The fact I don't plan to wear it with the bracelet doesn't imply I will NEVER have the desire to wear it on the bracelet. Anyway, I can sell the bracelet if I realize i will never wear it. The best diver straps = caoutchouc not steel.

It will look absurd on a leather strap.

Isn't buying a 4 000 euros watch abusurd anyway when you can buy a $150 Seiko with the same bracelet and shape ?

So why are you doing it? N.B. Euro is plural form when you use it in the sense that you did in English, i.e. 4000 Euro not 4000 Euros. For example, That watch cost me 4000 Euros. Does this look like a 4000 Euro watch. This watch is worth 4000 Euro. I have 4000 Euros to spend on my next watch.

Because : 1) I collect watches = Rolex is one of the most famous brand 2) I like quality = the Rolex looks better and is better made than the Seiko 3) I dont' like losing money = the Rolex will keep its value 4) I am megalomaniac = the Rolex is better to show off 5) Life is absurd I don't wear my Seiko with the original bracelet neither anyway and if Rolex sells his watches with bracelet, it doesn't mean this is the best combo estheticaly talking.

Which colour combination of the Sub are you going to go for?

I will never get this, is there something vastly complicated about the comparative/superlative in English. Every person I have ever know to speak English as a second language does what Ernest has done in the above quote. Better than what? My mother?

Cut Ernest some slack. I know scores of people who've grown up speaking English who speak the same way.

I was not being insulting, it was a sincere question. I wanted to know if anyone knew the technical reasoning behind it.

Rolex is better (than Seiko) to show off. The Seiko was obvious in this sentence. So i assumed you could guess it.

The technical reason for what? Good = Better My English is good My English is better (than before) What is the problem in "better" ?
